    Lost desktop icon shortcuts

I just did a fresh install of Win 10 from Win 7
I saved the desktop shortcuts from C:\Users\myname\Desktop to a stick, i was using Chrome as the default engine.
After i installed Win 10 and copied the desktop folder back under my username the icons and the name of the shortcut shows on my desktop but all the shortcuts are missing. I am talking about shortcuts to the internet not to programs on my computer. When i click on an icon it just goes to me Chrome home page.
Would there be a solution to this ?

Hi, I'm not sure I quite understand. This has two possible interpretations:
I just did a fresh install of Win 10 from Win 7
    a. I upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10 - in which case you would have kept your files and installed programs if all went well.
    or
    b. I was running Win 7, but have clean installed Win 10 (i.e. no programs or data that were there in Win 7 now present on 'C: '

If they are shortcuts to URLs, they can be re-created very easily.

Please clarify if you mean (a) or (b) and post a screenshot of your desktop, explaining what you mean.
To post a screenshot use the icon above your post 'Insert Image'.

    b. I was running Win 7, but have clean installed Win 10 (i.e. no programs or data that were there in Win 7 now present on 'C: '

I know i can recreate the shortcuts but why would they not be in the desktop folder ?

Thanks. As you have clean installed Win 10, you will have installed that to unallocated space on your disk. Your installation will be the same as if you had used a clean disk. No programs, no data, from your previous installation.

Had you upgraded, then your user profile, programs and data would have been available as they were in Win 7, if all went well.

Thank you so much for your reply. Remember, help is given of good will and voluntarily.

Kindly restate your question. You asked why, after having done a clean install, your shortcuts weren't on your desktop.

If that is not your question, what is?

No that is not what i said. After i copied the saved desktop folder back under c:/users/myname/ the icons to internet locations are on my desktop but when i click on one it just goes to my Google home page not to the site that it originally went to in win 7

Again thank you very much for your reply. I'm definitely leaving this for someone else. Good luck.

Were these 'shortcuts' also saved in Google favorites?
