Do you mean the program they open with has changed or the image its self has changed format?

Have you tried changing the extension of one file to .jpg or .png to see if it will open in your graphics program/app? Some third-party file managers like Total Commander, Free Commander, etc., can change file names or parts of file names en masse such as added by Internet sites like YouTube

I mean the file extensions, BUT, I have installed my favorite image program IRFANVIEW so all is 99% well thanks.

Whilst doing it, I lost a few pics, is there anywhere I can look for them?

Yes I did that and can open, but normally when I c/o a folder containg say 10 pics, they all open as pics, not icons.

Maybe this helps to show what I mean, so I have to open each pic rather than them open as small/medium icons

Click View on the Toolbar, can change the view such as Details, List or the different sizes of icons/thumbnails. What you show implies file association with your IrfanView installation.

If the pictures got erased you can try the free Recuva app.

Download Recuva | Recover deleted files, free!

    Hi Guys

Thanks for tips, funny thing is Phone Man, that when I opened pics this time, they opened up ok.

I may have mentioned, had a laptop for years using all the W7 W8 W10, then I bought a chromebook which is ok in some respects but not as versatile as w10 so I bought a HP w10.

So I went a bit rusty on w10 and am running between both whilst modifying it to my liking.

At the moment, I am having trouble transferring all onto a stick, then installing it on w10, not straightforward as doing it between t Windows pc's.

Looking at the picture you posted it seems like you may have them in your Onedrive folder.
Open a browser and go to Onedrive
Look for the recycle bin and see if you can find the missing pictures.
