    Problems with Autoplay Options

After setting up my new PC with Windows 10 I discovered that when attaching my Canon Powershot A540 camera via USB, I don't get the same Autoplay options as I did on my old PC running Windows 10.
My old PC allows me to "Import pictures and videos (Photo Gallery).
My new PC does not allow that option.
The option i am given is "Import pictures and videos (Photos)"
Same version of Windows 10 same build and same version of Photo Gallery installed on both (Windows Essentials).
To make matters worse, when I do download, the dialog box that comes up won't save the "Delete" option as a default. I have to select it every time. Seems a little shabby to me, or unrefined.
Any ideas why the difference from PC to PC?
    Thanks.

Hello, is this the Photo Gallery to which you referred? (No link given)
Download and install Windows Photo Gallery on Windows 10

Could it be a question of what's been assigned as default- Photos or this?

Yes, that's the one. It's no long available at that link so I found this Youtube video that shows another link.

It's not a problem of "Default" because they are different on the 2 PCs.
On the new PC I was not able to select the default import program as being Photo Gallery.
Is that what you meant or the "Default Program" in the Control Panel?

Sorry, yes- an association rather than an Autoplay option.

E.g. is there a difference between the icons representing image files/videos between the two PCs, and what opens when e.g. a jpg file is double clicked?

    - unless there's some other specific file type involved..

Unfortunately that didn't fix it. I hadn't really thought of that so good try.
I even went so far as to delete the camera from the Device driver and have Windows re-install the drivers for it and then set the Default Photo Viewer again after deleting the entries from the Registry for Known Devices (that's how the Autoplay entries are displayed).
I suppose I could live with it but with the Photos App not saving the "Delete" setting it could get a bit hairy if I forget it and therefore leave the photos on the camera.

There is no difference in the icons and the Photo Gallery is launched on both PCs when an image is double-clicked.

As to the difference in autoplay options, assuming you responded appropriately to any installation prompts or prompt as to the default action by autoplay when first connecting the camera, you may be down to find the appropriate key in the registry that's different and copying it from one PC to the other and merging it.

Bear in mind you're using discontinued software, and cannot expect it necessarily to run without snags.

As a guess, perhaps the way the older installation was handled turned out differently- perhaps that's legacy from pre-Win 10 upgrade? and there's now a Win 10 incompatibility.

Did you try installing the program in compatibility mode?

I kinda figured that I would be doing some Registry work in the end.

The fact that I'm using discontinued software should have the same consequences on both PC's running the same Build of Windows 10 but it doesn't. That's why I'm so bummed by this problem.

It's almost as if you bought 2 identical cars and when you press the horn button on one the horn sounds and when you do it on the other car the windshield wipers turn on.

I'm off to do a little Registry exploration. What fun!

I think you missed the point I made- as I understand it (and I may well be wrong), the program was installed some time back on the 'working' PC, but on a clean install of the same build where you have problems.

So the installation environment was presumably different.

You are correct about the circumstances.
It's even possible that Photo Gallery was installed on the old PC before Microsoft pulled it so there may be some subtle differences between the 2 copies.

Remember you can try running the installer in compatibilty mode.
