Set default location for new windows? Hasten password textbox?

Build 18363.535 just installed. I'm used to Win 7 Pro so it's a bit like going into your house and finding all the furniture rearranged.

One annoying habit I haven't been able to break is the way it throws windows into the corners so I have to move them to get them centered for easier reading. They won't remember where I put them, so certain apps that I'm in and out of frequently are a real PITA.

Is there a setting I can use to put new windows in the center of the screen by default, or is this something the individual apps control?

Also I've noticed it takes WinX a lot longer to awaken from sleep than it did Win 7. Any way to shorten the wait before the password textbox appears?

Is it just certain apps that are not opening as expected? Notepad is a good test. Try opening it and positioning it as you like on the screen. Close it. Open it again. It should open in the same place where it was located before you closed it. File explorer should also behave this way. If not, then there must be a setting off somewhere, I'm trying to research this further to determine what might cause it.

I need to pay more attention to what apps give me this problem. ATM things seem to be settling down.

After a couple of days of struggle with an unfamiliar OS on a couple of different computers that I had to essentially rebuild from scratch (the software environment, I mean), and anxiety over the possibility of lost data, I think I've reached my limit in tolerance of unexpected behaviors and mysterious settings. Sometimes too many choices are worse than none!

The startup from sleep is definitely a lot longer, though.

That seems consistent with my observation. Guess I just need to practice my patience!

I appreciate the suggestion regarding 'Snap Windows'. This is an example of unhelpful features that should not be on by default when millions of us are forced to transition from a familiar OS to something new and different. I would respectfully suggest that 'look and feel' be maintained in future Windows versions with new OPTIONS for power users to elect.

As for the startup time problem, a second or two is what I recall from Win 7 Pro. I just timed the WinX wake-up at 23". This is disgusting and I will be grateful for suggestions to cut it down to, let's say, 5". Same hardware, btw.
