New PC's do not have the bloatware that older PC"s did. I have a 2 year old Dell laptop and there was very little to "clean out" on it.
It will have a link for MS Office but its just a link, no other software installed. I do user support on the Dell community forum and don't see much about bloatware like we did years ago.

I uninstalled the McAfee that came with it and only use the built into Windows 10, Windows Defender. Its free and does as well and in some cases better than the paid AV programs. Defender does not use all the system resources that McAfee and Norton do. I only use Windows Defender and Malwarebytes on my Desktop.

Frank, What are you gonna be using the computer for? Gaming, browsing online, store pictures and videos on etc?

At my age I have no interest in gaming or video streaming - primarily use my pc's for surfing/searching the internet, music recordings, youtube, email and browser links. Do like the high speed of both the pc and the internet and usually purchase a pc and ISP that provides it.

Frank when you set-up that new PC, AFAIK it will "force" you to create a Microsoft account as I seen that on new PC's I've set up recently.
--- If that's ok with you, that's fine.

I don't have an official source but indications are that applies to Windows 10 Home but not Windows 10 Pro.
--- Please let us know your experience.

If you don't want to use a Microsoft account, you can get around that and create a user account you prefer by not having the PC connected to the Internet.
--- However if you don't do that, when you reach the screen where it wants you to create a Microsoft account by entering a phone number, skype or (I forgot the 3rd option), enter a bogus phone number. It won't be recognized and you will be able to move on and create a user account of your choice.

Offline account in the lower left corner of the screen has been the normal selection when moving on in creating a non-Microsoft account but recently I've seen Limited Experience instead.

If I remember correctly a standard user account will be created and then you will need to convert it to a local admin account. I guess you might be able to sense I run into a senior moment sometime but I hope that information is helpful for you on what you decide you want to do.

Being new to Windows 10 Forums I have apparently not thanked one of the posters on this thread correctly. I thought I had, but continue to receive personal messages in my email asking me to thank and add to his reputation. However, when I go back to his post and click on Thank it tells me I cannot add a second reputation? Can someone enlighten me - I must be doing something wrong.

Never fear just start using the new system Win 10 is not going to give you any problems, sure it's different from Win 7 but not so different that you won't be able to start using it.
Fear is of the unknown as soon as you start using Win 10 it won't be unknown.

You aren't doing anything wrong - you cannot rep someone sucessively.

It's dispicable that they are PM'ing you asking for thanks/reps!

Here's food for thought Mr. Frank. Don't let the computer intimidate you. TRY to do what you want. The very worst that can happen is you might have to re-install Windows 10 but even then you'll still be learning! :) Keep in mind the wrong way to do something is the way that didn't work. There may be other ways to do them, but the best way is the way that works for you.

I'm turning 70 this year and I'm the boss of my computer, not the other way around. Backup, backup and backup again. See, I can't say backup enough :)

Completely agree. I've used many "Dummies" books over the years (Windows 95, Windows 7, Photoshop, etc.) and they are an excellent starting point. They have everything you need to know to get on your way and if you're like me and want to be able to go back and reread something they are invaluable.

Funny thing, when I first started reading them on the bus years ago I was embarrassed to have anybody see me because you know, it said "Dummies". Once I realized what a great resource they were I didn't care anymore. And then they became popular !
Here's a quick access PDF for [pirate book link removed]
