    Windows Just Stops During Boot

This doesn't happen all the time, maybe every 10 boots or so, but it's getting rather annoying.

I have a new build and I think I have all of the kinks out of it, but every once in a while when booting up, the system will go through the BIOS page and then on to Windows 10. I get to the opening splash screen of Windows and the computer just stops dead. No hard disk activity, no keyboard, no anything. Just the windows logo on my screen. I have left it for up to ten minutes and it does not progress from there. The only thing I can do to get it moving is to press the reset switch and reboot. It then reboots normally.

I'm not getting a BSOD with this, and there is nothing in the event log for the stalled boot.

I'm booting from an NVMe drive and it's new. Could it be flaky?

    Hi Gurn

Anything new can be flaky, that is why there is warranty.

You could use Crystal Disk Info to see SMART data.

    CrystalDiskInfo – Crystal Dew World

Once installed click on "Function" tab > Advance Feature > Raw Values > 10[Dec]

This presents error values in decimal amounts. I would think you would have zero read and write errors at this point.

Crystal Disk also gives you an overall assessment.

Does Crucial have any firmware updates for your NVMe drive?

Are there any BIOS updates available at Asus for stability.. not saying to update, just asking if there are updates available.

You mentioned the build was new as well. How long was it booting okay for on one of your other storage devices?

Did you run a memory check on the memory when you did the build?

    MemTest86+ - Test RAM

When it stops, booting, are any of your onboard LED's lit?

Since you likely had to disconnect things to install NVMe I would also re-seat (remove and reconnect) connections just to be sure they are well connected.

Hi, are you running everything in spec? No over-clocking?

    Try running this:

I thought I was running everything in spec, but my motherboard defaults to having Performance Boost turned on by default. My CPU was clocking 650 MHz faster than stock. I forced it off and I haven't noticed a boot problem, but I did notice a shutdown problem where the PC shut everything down, but the fans didn't stop and the hard drive light kept flashing about twice per second. A hard reboot fixed that and I turned power off as normal with my surge protector.

    - I have run Memtest86+ on the RAM, 8 passes with no errors
    - I reseated everything
    - I haven't looked in the case to see the LEDs when it stops booting, and I forgot to do it last night on the flaky shutdown
    - All temperatures are good
    - I had previously updated the ASUS mobo BIOS to the latest version. I will check for one for the NVMe drive
    - The PSU is new, so are the graphics cards

I got a blue screen last night with the error "Driver_Unmapping_Invalid_View" I'm not sure what that means, but if it blue screens again, I will post in the BSOD thread.

At this point, I'm beginning to suspect the motherboard.

Thanks for all of your help so far.

It failed to boot again today. I had to hard reset before it would boot.

I was able to check the motherboard LEDs for status and none of them were glowing. No BSODs today so far and nothing about the boot failure in the event logs.

I'm mystified, but I will run Memtest86+ all night and see if that turns up anything.

The DRIVER_UNMAPPING_INVALID_VIEW bug check has a value of 0x000000D7.
This indicates a driver is trying to unmap an address that was not mapped.

Run the V2 log collector and upload results into this thread:
