How to get a process to take the last step

In one PC, (x64Win10Prov1909)when I insert a USB stick, Notification says "There is a problem with this drive. Scan this drive now and fix it." If I click on that, a dialog opens that says "Do you want to scan and fix .....?" If I click on 'Continue without scanning', it opens the drive and so reveals its contents in Explorer; but in another PC (x32Win10Prov1909), the process stops short of opening the USB. How to get the second PC to open the USB automatically ?

How do you get the content displayed in file explorer on inserting it? Perhaps review your Autoplay settings?

Upgrading to v1909 had reset my Autoplay Settings - but even when I chose 'Open folder to view Files' in Autoplay, it still does not happen.

What happens with a flash drive with which you don't get a chkdsk warning?

And if you do complete the scan, does it complete successfully?

Run Chkdsk X: /f command to see issue resolves. Replace X: drive letter with USB drive letter.

It's an interesting question about scanning, but one that I am not motivated to answer as I do not want to to be doing scans every time I insert a USB - after all, on the other PC, Autoplay works without doing scans - with the SAME USBs.

Please clarify. Imagine you have 4 flash drives. Do you experience the same with each and every drive?

What happens if you just do
    chkdsk x: /scan
(where x: is your flash drive- this scans only)
    Is anything reported?

Can you view the problem drive normally in file explorer?

I can't tell you how to make the PC do what you want. The issue won't be Autoplay.

I did not have to imagine 4 USB sticks - I actually have and inserted 4 different sticks. They all showed in 'This PC', but only some triggered the scanning dialog - NONE autoplayed to reveal their contents.

I searched my notes and found that the fix is to change HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoDriveTypeAutoRun from 0x0000009e (158) to 0x00000091 (145) [9e to 91].
Every time I upgrade the Win10 version, that gets reset to 9e - on that one PC.
