    Hi there
running W7 or even XP has relatively ZERO risk -- assuming you surf safely and don't make the obvious errors -- opening attachments (or any email) from people you don't know , giving out too much info over social media etc etc.

Hacking HOME computers these days is basically passe --so last Century --there's no money (or even any fun or challenge ) in it any more for "Serious Hackers". Money is made via scams and identity fraud.

If you are basically worried about W7 -- just run it as a Virtual machine whether on W10 or Linux and do all your Internet activity via W10 or Linux.

I'm still using an XP VM daily for using some old legacy hardware -- never a problem with infections.

    Cheers

There is much more to upgrading to Win 10 then just safety, Win 10 makes your system work better with your software, as these programs are also being upgraded for Win 10.

agreed but some of this old hardware I have and still use -- e.g Vinyl cutting equipment for creating bespoke vinyls for people won't ever run on W10 -- wouldn't even run on VISTA or W7. To replace perfectly working hardware and the studio software for this would cost over 45,000 USD today -- why bother when the old stuff is working perfectly for the volume of business that I do.

I also use some old minidisc recorders -- these are a real dog to get working even on W7 but still work perfectly on XP.

There's nothing wrong in using Virtual machines for running legacy hard and software.

    Cheers

I have around a hundred old LPs from the 80s, i found a cheap small record player on Amazon the SKEVON it came with the program Windows | Audacity (R)
And the input from my computer to the record player, this gave me the way to move my old LPs to digital files on my computer.

The CD that comes with the recorder is far outdated don't install it, download the Audacity program from Net, and install it, they also have a Forum that is very helpful in how to use the program.

If this is what you are posting about i hope this information is helpful.

    Hi there
    @digitalcurisity

    It's THE OTHER WAY AROUND

I take loads of songs from people's CD's / phones etc and then CREATE INDIVIDUAL old Vinyl 7 / 10 / 12 inch records for them to order with custom labels and custom tracks.

I'd like also to make custom album sleeves as well but currently I'm just using plain brown cardboard sleeves.

There's ZERO problems in digitising old Vinyls --this is about CREATING NEW ONE's -- even more profitable these days as cheap blanks are now readily available from China / Taiwan etc and vinyl is in a bit of a revival phase. !!!.

    Cheers

Unfortunately, that's not an option for me.

Will Win 7 on a Win10 VM be safe? I would assume that as long as one runs Defender or something like it and browses safely and common-sensically it will, but I thought I'd ask.

Yeah....Keep it, it'll be fine. There is so much 'hacking' nonsense out there online. MS wants everyone on Win10 and you can still upgrade with a Win7 key. Personally, I will keep my Win7 on one of my systems, it's rarely online and all the software I use on it is legit...I have sad MS Flight Sim X tendencies ...Ooops!

Issues will almost definitely arise if you use torrents and cracks.

That's all well and good ... but it's not always an option. I have three really old Win7 PCs that I keep around for special uses and NONE of them can be upgraded to Win10. I know because I tried on all three and all of them failed miserably -- mostly due to older hardware (which is not upgradeable) for which newer drivers are not available.

So, I will keep using these until they no long work, or they get infected -- whichever comes first -- as I simply don't have the money to go out and buy new machines to replace these.
