Can someone explain why Win 10 is more secure to use than a Win 7?
In all years using MS OSs (DOS, Win 3.11, Win95, win98, WinXP, Win 7 and Win 10) I never got infected.
The main security is on the user behavior.
I don't open links sent by email or don't click around on unsafe sites.
And I use Firefox with Add-ons (HTTPS and script blocker (the forbidden to mention on this site)).

Win 7 will continue to work as it does today for many years. And AV and Firefox will continue to deliver new versions if there are users for them. And 27% of all Windows OS are still with Win 7

    Hi,
Actually win-10 is not safer unless you use a MS account and all of defender nagging new features and also edge....
Otherwise it's not any more secure than a standard user account in win-7... with malwarebytes premium or similar av and do not use ie11.

    Hi,
Worst vulnerability now days is ransomware it will blast win-10 too so not even the mighty win-10 can save you with it
It asks for your permission in dubious ways and activates much like a lot of apps do.

Win-7 will be fine but of course if you want to move to win-10 feel free
I personally will use win-7 far past eol
10 really is just a benchmark os and I don't do that very often kind of works off hardware upgrades.
    7 is primary everyday os.
I was hit with ransomware on Win 7. Got on the computer one morning and everything was encrypted With a message saying they'll decrypt one file for free! How generous. Thank God I'm vigilant when it comes to backup. I have three remote backup drives and I backup once a week all data and do a system backup. When I got hit I I was able to return to pretty much were I was.

You refer as WannaCry (2017) or there is another one circulating?

I have pics of it. Now I got to go look them up.. Thanks... Excuse the theme. I was going the the contrast look at the time. Anyway I just took a few pics. It wasn't WannaCry Ransomware as they add the extension .WINCRY and mine added .DOCM Making it .DOCM Ransomware

For security reasons all extensions should always be visible (Explorer options)
In your picture it shows "name".mp3.docm. If you suppress the extension you get "name".mp3 and it looks like a music when it's a word macro file.

Windows 7 will become safer over time because hackers will focus on the vulnerability of the majority ... Windows 10 vulnerabilities.

They'll spend less time hacking older systems because there will be fewer targets.

It's always best to upgrade to the latest Windows OS, as others have done i took the free Win 10 on all but two win 7 computers.

I remember staying much to long using XT and sure was not going to make that mistake again.

Am surprised Microsoft is still supporting Win 7, when i last found an update it really improved the old Win 7, but know it won't last long so am glad Win 10 is getting so much better today.

    Hi there

running W7 or even XP ON A HOME COMPUTER -- (enterprise / cloud / public forums /corporate systems another matter entirely) has relatively ZERO risk -- assuming you surf safely and don't make the obvious errors -- opening attachments (or any email) from people you don't know , giving out too much info over social media, opening dubious websites like fake tax refund ones etc etc.

Virus infections on HOME computers is almost ZERO these days -- if I were say a North Korean Hacker I'd get much more enjoyment about hosing up infrasctructure --public transport, electricity supply etc etc !!!!

Hacking HOME computers these days is basically passe --so last Century --there's no money (or even any fun or challenge ) in it any more for "Serious Hackers". Money is made via scams and identity fraud.

If you are basically worried about W7 -- just run it as a Virtual machine whether on W10 or Linux and do all your Internet activity via W10 or Linux.

I'm still using an XP VM daily for using some old legacy hardware -- never a problem with infections.

    Cheers
