    Windows10 upgraded from Windows 7

    Hi All-

Golly- looking at the backgrounds of you folks, I'm a real "nerd" in the computer field.

I'm just an old USAF and corporate, retired, pilot. We- (Cindy & "Boo"- our Lab) just travel in our Motor home- our "stick and brick" home is in North Carolina.

I have two Laptops that I recently upgraded to W-10. One was a W-7, and the second was a W-8.1.

I really like W-10. It appears to me that MS has taken the best of all their former systems and consolidated them into this newest version. I go back to W-2000, XP, Vista and W-7. Of course, I have very little experience with computers and associated systems.
I love the weather app- It's real cool for our Motor Home trips.

I was wrestling with the password sign in every time I turned around- on the W-7 conversion- I followed the thread instructions on this forum, and on this subject, and I just couldn't get it right . After 3 days, and many hours later, I got it solved for the W-7 conversion laptop.
The W 8.1 conversion laptop didn't have an issue.
I'll make a post about my solution soon.

And yes, I understand the hazards involved in bypassing the password---

Again, Hi to all, and thanks for letting me in on this great source of info and help to folks like me

    Max

Win 10 Pro Insider Preview Build 14295

I retired from IBM in 1991 after 34 years. I happen to be a good example of why some folks think IBM stands for I Been Moved. I have not yet scanned all the Replies in this thread but am heartened to see some folks with similar backgrounds. I began my "techie" career thanks to the USN who schooled me in computers used in shipboard Fire Control. Nothing to do with fires, but positions large guns to fire at land targets, other ships and aircraft. Joined IBM after 4 fun years with USN and then enjoyed many different career paths e.g., servicing mainframes, marketing, development, research and management. I currently "play" with my old Dell laptop and a Lenovo desktop. I started with one of the early IBM PCs in '81 and stayed mostly with PC vs Apple since I focus mostly on the technology and not the end user aspect. Both of my current systems are running W-10 Insider Preview Build 14295, one Home and one Pro. The desktop does most of the heavy lifting, MS Office, music and photo organization, email and maintenance of a website hosted elsewhere. The laptop has little of it's own on it but lets me work in my LazY Boy while watching TV. I use Clouds to share data between the two and use a stand alone NAS box for backup.

I like Windows 10 over 7 and 8.1 because I believe it begins transitioning to and from many device types, and interfaces. Hopefully one day we will be able to enjoy a single system that works across all computers with common interfaces.

I have two questions for anyone:
How do you enter more than one system in the profile?
And, if I replace my laptop with a new one, can I "move" my Win 10 Pro system over to it? The replacement system may be a laptop/tablet but would most likely have Win 10 Home on it from the vendor. I enjoy the "Insider" program and the Pro copy of 10 and would like to keep them. I have no problem losing any personalization or data on the old laptop.

Welcome to the forums rjn111, we're glad to have you here. As far as entering 2 systems, I use the bottom part "Other Info" to enter some of my other systems. Others have come up with more creative ways.

Windows 10 links itself to serial numbers inside the hardware, so you wouldn't be able to move the OS without contacting Microsoft. People have had problems with the OS no longer working after replacing hardware because of it. I don't know whether MS would let you transfer the OS though.

If you click on the title of a forum and get to the page with the forum title and a list of threads, there should a "Post New Thread" button on the left near the top of the page, and another near the bottom. If you don't see one there, I don't really know what else to do.
