How to move everything from Onedrive to Local Computer drive?

I have onedrive disabled on my laptop but when I save stuff it still goes to the onedrive folder and it acts like my main PC hard drive (this PC).

I tried removing the files in the black square, I tried desktop first and It removed everything from my desktop. So I had to put it back in onedrive.

So, How do I put everything in this onedrive into This PC folder? so I can remove those Ondrive files.

On my other computer when I click the onedrive drop down, it shows nothing, I want it like that on this laptop.

You need to disconnect Onedrive from the PC before you can transfer the contents to This PC folders. Otherwise, will sync instantly. Open Onedrive, click the Onedrive tray icon then More then Settings. Like in screenshot, under 'Account' tab, hit 'Unlink this PC' and follow prompts then 'OK'.

Next, in Backup tab, uncheck all then all in Manage Backup screen too. Hit OK and close. Should be good to go.

When I disable the backup feature, all my files and files on desktop will be gone when the back up feature is disabled. I had to re-enable backup so my files will be there again.. How can I move my files from onedrive to This PC drive?

Copy all of the files in your One Drive folder to folders under This PC first, then follow MrGeek instructions.

    Just a hint:

Unless you have physically deleted the folder/files from your OneDrive cloud storage, you can always download them from there. They haven't gone anywhere.

    Example.....

Change whatever browser you use to default download to another folder somewhere that you create. Could be an external drive, doesn't matter.

Sign on to your OneDrive account and download any or all that you want. They will be in the new folder you created.

Then you can do anything you want to the OneDrive app and it's folder/files on your PC. If you are still synced and delete anything on your PC, it will delete on cloud storage.

You will still have what you downloaded.

May give you some options to think about here as you work on this.

Unlink the PC first. Follow "Gary's" directions in Post 4. Move vs Copy, if you prefer. This will empty the folders under Onedrive.

Sorry, I probably didn't need to show you the 'Manage backup' options. Those are only if you wish to constantly backup the selected folders to the Onedrive cloud in case of hard drive failure, etc. Just so you understand, the contents of This PC folders and Onedrive folders CAN be different. I use Onedrive to share SELECT files, pictures and videos to friends. I just COPY the files to share, to the appropriate One drive folder and share the folder. Hope you understand this concept.

EG; in my screenshot, I have all those checked even though I don't backup those folders to Onedrive. They are there only if you want to sync that particular This PC folder to Onedrive. In your case, just un-check all boxes but DO NOT click the 'Start backup' button in lower R corner (just off my screenshot) or it will sync to Onedrive again.

PS: AFTER doing all this, in the Onedrive/ Settings tab, UN-check the 'Start Onedrive automatically when I sign in to Windows' to disable auto-startup. This would certainly fix any unwanted sync issue. Good Luck, have great New Year.

hi there - i found this post after inadvertently installing xplane 11 in the "one drive" on my new hp laptop. i followed your instructions about disabling one drive but now my laptop has locked up ? when you unsync does windows automatically move any files into my local 1TB SSD drive ? or do i have to manually move them over ?

not sure what to do now as its just sitting there with the fans running full tilt! the installation was around 50GB ? so im guessing this is causing the lock up?

    any help appreciated guys thanks
    pete

50 gb is a huge load on your internet which may explain the lockup/slowdown. Check that your default app save is to C drive (see screenshot below). Unsync Onedrive. Then uninstall/delete your game from Onedrive and install with your C drive/Programs folder as install location. Then re-enable Onedrive sync. Note: If you now have C as the default location for docs, pics, etc those will only sync if you copy them to the appropriate Onedrive folders unless you change this in the Onedrive Settings. This is a good article on how to navigate that within Onedrive -
