Opening a new Document, I get two Blank Documents instead of one

Clicking on Start and then on the Windows Document square, I get two blank documents instead of one. It just recently began to do this. I might have inadvertently caused this.

What can I do so that I just get one black document?

Can't help as I don't have a Windows Document tile on the Start menu. Where did yours come from.

Maybe I don't have it because I'm still using Office 2007? What version do you have?

I have Microsoft Word 2016 with automatic updates.

You can pin programs to your block of tiles by opposite-mouse-clicking on the program when the programs are displayed when you click on the Start Button. The prompt is "Pin to Start."

I see what you mean. It seems I used the wrong word: I should have written:

"Clicking on Start and then on the Word Document square, I get two blank Word Documents instead of one. It just recently began to do this. I might have inadvertently caused this.

I should have written "Word Document" instead of "Windows Document."

This comes from being a Rookie.

Same problem for me, what do you right click on to create this Word Document in the Start Menu? I have lots of DOCX files but right clicking on them there is no Pin to Start Menu. I'm sure it's a simple thing to do but I don't know how.

Regarding Mouse Buttons: My Primary Button is the Left Button. Most people use the right button as their primary button. To avoid confusion, I’ll write “Primary Button” or “Non-Primary Button.”

When you click on Start with your Primary Button, a small list appears above the Start Icon; the first Icon is “Power.” Then comes “Settings” “Pictures” and “Documents.” About 4 inches directly above this small list there are “three lines.” Primary-Button-click on those lines, and a long list of the apps that are on your computer will appear. First come the “Most Used.” My first three on “Most Used” are “Word” “Edge” and “Notepad.” Then comes a long list in alphabetical order. For example, under A comes “Alarms and Clocks” and under Y comes “Your Phone.”

Note: If you want to make the list of apps disappear, Primary-Button-Click on the three lines, and the list will disappear.

If you Non-Primary-Button-Click on any of these apps you get a drop-down that reads “Pin to Start” and “More.” Under “More” on the drop-down, is the possibility to “Pin to Taskbar.”

If you Primary-Button-Click on “Pin to Start,” a Tile will appear to the right in the black window. These Tiles can be used for Quick Access. When you “Primary-Button-Click” on the “Word Tile,” a window will appear with several options, the first option is “Blank Document.” Primary-Button-Click on the Blank Document, and a Blank Document will appear on the screen.

If you want to remove a tile from the Black Window, Non-Primary-Button-Click on the app in the long list, and the option to “Unpin from Start” will appear. Primary-Button-Click on the “Unpin from Start” and that Tile will disappear.

You can move the Tiles around by using "Drag and Drop."

Doesn't work this way for me. When I left click (Primary-Button-Click) on the Word tile, it launches Microsoft Word, which is what I would expect it to do. I don't, nor would I expect to get, a window with options. I would expect to see that if I right clicked (Non-Primary-Button-Click) on the Word tile.

This is what I actually get:

Opening a new Document, I get two Blank Documents instead of one-image.png

There must be a difference in Microsoft Word Versions. When I left click on the Word Tile, I get a full-screen display and not a blank document. Again, it's a full-screen-display and not a drop-down. In order to Launch the blank word document, I have to left click on the first option in the top left corner of the full-screen-display; that option reads: Blank Document.

When I right click on the Word Tile, I get a drop-down window exactly like yours.

Getting back to my problem of getting two blank documents when I left click on the Word Tile: After I boot up, the first time I open a Blank Word Document, I only get one; however, the second time, I get two. Again: it just started doing that recently.

I vaguely remember something like this from way back and another vague remembrance of renaming NORMAL.DOT to NORMAL.DOT-save (can rename to anything actually). It will be recreated when you start Word the next time.

See if that makes a difference. If not you can delete the new one and out back the one you renamed if you want though probably not necessary.
