Hi Andre here is the pic you asked for.

I have noted just that My Printer was showing as a Disk drive (D) in device manger ?? I dont leave this on normally but had to print a doc. i was being asked to insert a disk in the removable drive ???
Switching it off did as id expect, removed it from the listing. I dont understand why this should be the case.
i am though starting to understand how badly i may have messed things up by try to get my Storage HDD to display as Drive D. It seems C drive is going to be the BOOT and anything else will follow as alphabetically next until i run out of non HDD kit before allowing me to designate my own order of preference.
I have carried out a Recuva deep scan, and recovered what was found but its not what i want.
My documents folder/library was telling me "D:\document is not accessible". So im going to try to rename what is now showing as G drive back to D. I fear i'm nearing the end both of what i'm capable of and what the drive may still hold, which has a potential to be recovered.

    Jacee.............
Expletives...Cheers for that i'm going to have to take some time to digest this info. There may be questions.....
I'll reply further when i either understand or cant get my head around something .. Christmas may have to wait.

Jacee...i've read it and understand the stuff about redirection and the inability to redirect. It has raised my hopes of a result.
I'm not familiar with using the registry and generally stay clear of tampering in this realm, its for clever people like you.
Quote from the MS web page.......
"If the current My Documents path is incorrect or is no longer available, you can use the Restore Default option to restore the default path:

NOTE: This option is not displayed when group policy folder redirection is in effect for this folder. IS THIS MY PROB i wonder ? Im off to explore "user profile & default storage location" I'll be back

To all those who have read and tried to assist me.
I have changed the drive letter to D. As a change to the location of my Docs to E:\ found nothing. Note My user profile name as displayed in my profile was not what i had to type into the Command prompt in order to display the info about my user profile, it was an abbreviation......... Note to Self: change this if you can, later.

Whilst surfing for further prompts about user profile changes, i found my way back in, through another tab to this forum. I did as suggested , sorry cant offer credit as i dare not go back now, I think it was a "how to do it " on user profile changes. I changed the profile for my docs to D:\Documents and had a severe bout of deja vu. A folder/s I had seen yesterday is now accessible but its got about 5 folders in it and not any of the hundreds of folders i'm missing.

I clearly cannot leave things as they are. I suspect as soon as i re plug the CD-DVD kit back in, its going to re-claim D drive and if not that, then it seems my printer is next in line for D. Meaning my "Storage " drive, will get re named one way or another.

From what i thought i understood, my Documents or at least some of what was stored in that folder Should still be there albeit under a different name. I just seem unable to ask the drive to give up a list of WHO/What is in school today, rather than asking for a specific class/pupil by name. Ive tried the age old solution of, if your not understood Shout! but that didnt help If this keeps up, I may turn to drink..thinking about it........

I'm sorry about the mess winsuff19.

If you have hard drive with partition D:, new (removable) drives would get different names.

    About your doc folders:
Open Windows explorer under This PC (look in picture) and type

    *Doc* kind:folder
in search box. All folders with doc in their name should pop up (can take some time). Try to locate your documents folder.

Hi Topgundcp. You are right to ask again. It appears i LEFT clicked. As doing that gave me the result i wrote of " D\ is inaccessible" whilst RIGHT clicking gave me what you suggested. I'm sorry it took two attempts. My head is so full of new experiences Im in danger of disappearing up my own processor. I have tried several things and have some new news. please read further where i will reply to Andre and yourself.

    Andre & Topgundcp.....
I'm going to get it in the neck for being on here today as i had been banned from the PC on Christmas Day. I must reply though mustn't i! it would be rude not to....

Late last night i discovered that whilst i have lost the icon for "my documents" and no other library icons, I have indeed lost the contents of the Library files, if not entirely then to a great extent. This was questioned by somebody early in my thread as i recall.
I have for the moment at least, taken the internal drive, which for simplicity i will refer to as (Docs drive) out of the box and installed it into an external dock. This as i figure, i lessen the chances of recovery by powering it up needlessly.
Andres tip, took me a little while to learn and put to use. Though the results do not look very promising it lends more ideas of what may eventually resolve the matter.
Topgundcp's idea AFTER i clicked the RIGHT button .... Now that i have the (Docs Drive) out of the box, did nothing when i renamed Docs as G drive (another drive im using to store everything in order to avoid use of a drive which may have what i want to recover on. Just returned an error something like "System cant be found". I was not surprised and i doubt you would be either. I wasn't sure of what you had in mind would happen, so did it that way to see what would happen. If i get it right, then your intention was that i RE-direct my documents to where they were (Docs Drive) . I WILL DO THAT next. However ....so as to keep the "Power up's" on that drive to a minimum. I wonder, now that i have discovered the other missing Music, Photos, Videos etc (libraries) does it throw a different light on things ?

Q2.These are "system" files/folders right? so is it just a case of getting my Index System back to where it was so that all the index cards fit back into it?
    Thanks guys

To everybody who is reading this. If you're somebody who has been smarter and made sure your BACKUPs are in order. You have every right to feel smug and i accept ALL the rude thoughts directed at me, yes i've been a ********. If like me you have had some reason for not being in that state and you don't have up to date backups DO IT NOW!! My problem was not one of ignorance nor of arrogance more a case of coincidence and trying to do too much at once without covering my back-ups. It's costing me far more now and i'm still in the tunnel, without so much as a glimmer of daylight.

There is a tool we can try to sort this out, but I have to gather some information first. The first step is to open cmd (you can type the keys Win + R, and type in: cmd), and type in this command and post the results:
    wmic logicaldisk get name

Cknoettg Hi, I have to explain that i have taken the drive i most expect/hope has my documents on (docs drive) out of the computer box so as to limit it use when im not actually trying to work on it. I have an external HDD dock which i can use via USB but im trying to Tidy up the mess i caused in the first place so that i can discount anything else (drives) as being of potential in any way.
I have used the command as you suggested on what remains in the box . The result will be attached.
I'm tied up trying to clean a drive before i copy over the data to a "safe spot" so that the Clean drive can be nuked of anything and used to help if and when if find my documents folder. the malware scan took plus 14 hours to complete and the virus scan still has 30 mins left of a can i started at 09:00 ish today, then again it said 30 mins left two hours ago so im not holding my breath on that. Once ive got that lot out of the way i will return to the command you have offered and run it on the "Data Drive"
MORE new INFO last night i discovered whilst looking into "Recent" on my ssd c drive, it has a whole host of short cuts pointing towards my recent docs ,pics etc. These go no place of course when clicked on as the drive names are all over the place and the drive on which the data is stored my not only;y not be plugged in but it probably has the wrong mane too. However i hope they will eventually be of use so ive copied them onto my fault log so as to keep them safe. i hope that eventually i will be able to rebuild the Folders and the files will then fall in place (OH If Only!!)

Thanks to all who have offered help so far, as Mr schwarzenegger said, i'll be back. Cheers All

Just right-click each library and go to the Location tab, if your disk letter is different from the disk letter in the Location PATH change it so that it matches. After that, open Registry editor and change the DWord values "Computer\HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Volatile Environment" to match the drive letter. This part may be completely unneeded. If you changed the disk letter back and they didn't show up still it's because you probably should've restarted Windows Explorer ( Task Manager > Windows Explorer > Restart ). If that still doesn't work, well you have terrible luck.

Open up to your disk drive's root directory ( D:\ or E:\ ), then navigate to Users\<yourusername> and open Documents. If your files are there, then go one folder back (to your user home directory), right click Documents, and select "Include in library >" and add it to the Documents directory. After each try at a solution make sure to restart Windows Explorer. Windows will fix environment variables up and restarting will give your user's Registry key (Volatile Environment) so that it it matches up with the new PATHs.

    More clearly:
1.) Right-click the Documents library on your Quick Access menu on the left panel in Windows Explorer, click Properties, go to the Location tab, and make sure that the disk letter your disk is currently running on matches up with the letter at the beginning of the Location PATH. You can also click "Move" and navigate to Users\<yourusername>\Documents and click "Select Folder". Then restart Windows Explorer via Task Manager > Windows Explorer > Restart. Restart your computer if nothing changes and update us from there.

2.) Open Registry Editor (Windows Key + R), then navigate to Computer\HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Volatile Environment and change the DWord values to match your computer's current disk letter. If nothing changes, restart your computer and update us from there.

    Might not be too useful,
    Yokiaza
