Cannot Type in Windows Start Menu

I have tried nearly all fixes I have found online, including reinstalling Cortana, running ctfmon.exe, SFC scannow, and DISM, but none of it has worked. I have also tried creating a new user account to see if it was an issue with my account specifically, but the new account also has the issue. This issue only started when Windows 10 automatically restarted and installed an update.

Just to clarify more, I can type in other UWP apps (at least I can in settings, I can't test any other apps). Also searchui.exe is not on my computer (for example, when trying reference the process through CLI or using run).

    Version: 1809 (17763.914)

I have already tried the Windows Search troubleshooter, which detected no issues.

When downloading and running that troubleshooter, it gets stuck on "Repairing Tile Database". Considering it has no CPU or Disk usage, and has used a very low amount of memory, I don't think it's doing anything.

I believe the main issue is that searchui.exe isn't running. Trying to run the exe manually simply generates a crash log, and search still doesn't work.

Can you rollback to prior version of OS?

Sorry for taking long to respond, no I can't. Windows gives me an error when I try to do so.

Have you tried updating your version of Windows 10 from ----> Version: 1809 (17763.914)?

Yes, but Windows never actually installs the update unfortunately. Event viewer shows it reverting back to my current version right after installing the new version.

I may be wrong here, but is it possible that search is not working because indexing is turned off? Open Indexing options from control Panel to review those settings.

Nope, I have indexing turned on for everything. I have also tried to rebuild the index as well.

The problem isn't that nothing comes up when I type, the problem is I literally cannot type in the start menu or taskbar search bar. When I type nothing changes.

This is the normal state of SearchUI.exe (build 1903)

This is how it looks after 'Hey Cortana'

Don't confuse this now with searching as in typing and finding things.

Diagnostic step: create a new user for test purposes. Log in as that user.

If the same problem is present, then try an in-place upgrade repair install.
Tutorial available, you will need an iso of the same build as you have now (1809).

Or you could try upgrading to 1903/1909 - 1903 has fewer problems.
