Why is file explorer not searching hidden folders in the users folder?

Please pay attention: (shown in picture)

    I've put a file in:
    C:\Users\jorge\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\UnsavedFiles\

    and the same file in:
    C:\Users\anton\Documents

When I do a File Explorer search for this file in the users folder (c:\users) or inside a user's folder (such as c:\users\anton), it finds the file in Documents, but not in the AppData folder.

Yet, if I do the same search in C: it returns both files.

Hidden files are being shown (enabled in File Explorer: view > show hidden files). Appdata is not being indexed (it's listed in the exclusion list in Indexing options).

Same result in 2 different computers in 1903 and after updating to 1909

    Any help much appreciated

    Hi,
    C:\Users\jorge\
    and
    C:\Users\anton\

    are two different user profiles.

I would guess that if you start a search in one user profile, it will not find files in the other, for reasons of user privacy and permissions.

I expect you already know that file explorer search will only find files below the point in the file hieraarchy at which it is open.

Did you use the same account when you did the search on C: and c:\users? Maybe the account that you used to search c:\users doesn't have the "list contents" permission on that particular folder and than you used another account to make the search on c:...

Sorry, I've added the right image now. To understand what I mean, just try this yourself:
Put a file in the appdata folder > go to your user folder: such as C:\Users\anton > while in your user's folder, do a search for the file. You'll probably have the same situation, it won't be found (this happened to me in two different computers). I'd like to know why.

Hi, first I added the appdata folder in Indexing Options (not visible there until hidden files & folders set to not hidden).

Then I checked that adding a file in appdata caused the number of items indexed to increment.

    Then I did this:
Win key + S, dummy*.txt, clicked Documents, clicked 'search in file Explorer' and let the search run.
(Ok, I could just have launched explorer and used the search box).

    As you can see- found.

Have you got Hidden files and folders hidden?

Thanks for that. I can see you indexed Appdata, why? of course if you index Appdata this will work. The reason why I posted this is because as a technician, not finding a file I'm supposed to find with a simple search is disconcerting and I'd like to know why. A simple search should find non-indexed files (after some thinking).

You didn't specify whether you were indexing appdata or not.

Kindly clarify whether you had hidden files set to show or not.

Thanks a lot for your attention. Hidden files are set to show (View > show "hidden files" is ticked), in fact the file is found when searched from C or other folders but not when searched from C:\users or c:\users\username.
