    Volume/Media Keys/AHK keys losing focus


    I just upgraded from Windows 7 Ultimate to 10 Pro ver. 1909 (fresh install) and I've worked out most of the many issues, but I'm still having trouble with this one.

    In Windows 7 with IntelliType, volume control and media keys worked everywhere, but in Windows 10 it seems that some microsoft consoles steal focus and prevent these controls from working while they are focused (regedit and most settings windows, for example).

    I've installed IntelliType for the better volume indicator and media key presence and I'm using HideVolumeOSD to get rid of the annoying built-in volume OSD, but these issues were present before installing these two programs.

    These microsoft consoles even steal focus from AutoHotkey, preventing all of my custom keys and commands from working.

    Anyone know of a way to fix this?

    Hi, comments more than a full solution as your mix of AHK scripts (unknown) and other software is not one I have:

    1. To change the volume indicator:
    Use Old or New Volume Control UI in Windows 10

    2. I use Volume2 (free) - this extremely well designed utility has quite a number of options, including different designs for the volume OSD. I control volume simply hovering over the task bar and scrolling.

    3. O&O regedit (free) is a good registry editor by a reputable large company with great full registry search and list results feature, and more.

    (Oh, and note the translucent title bars - adjustable- can be transparent- Aeroglass..)

    Perhaps an example might help as we have no idea what you're hoping to have happen...

    Hi,

    1. I've already changed the volume control.

    2. I don't need a new way to adjust the volume (I use a PowerMate for that) unless it allows volume to be adjusted everywhere. Having to hover over the task bar to adjust volume sounds really inconvenient (what if you're in a full screen program)?

    3. It's not just regedit that has this problem, it's pretty much anything that uses the windows shell, including a lot of third party stuff and freeware. I would say that most programs that aren't Windows Explorer, games, or web browsers are blocking volume, media, and AHK, which is really annoying.

    4. An example of a simple AHK key replacement I use:
    Code:
    CapsLock::Backspace
    . This doesn't work in many windows causing caps lock to be turned on and off when I'm trying to backspace. It worked just fine in Windows 7.

    Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but notifications are turned off, focus assist is set to alarms only, and UAC is set to never notify.

    I found a solution for these issues - I just had to run the AHK executable and my PowerMate executable as admin (even though I'm already logged in as an admin). This definitely wasn't needed in Windows 7, but everything is working now.

    You can choose a range of options for that, including the whole screen in that program.
