Is Fast Boot/Startup good or bad for a HDD?

Why is it good or bad whether it's turned on or off?

Your answer is in your question. It's neither good nor bad, it's irrelevant, really. The amount of data written/read at shutdown to populate the hibernation file, and the data read at startup is minuscule compared to all the daily I/O. This is a different question and subject than "Is Fast Boot/Startup" itself a good or bad thing. A lot of problems are cured by turning it off. Of course, with an SSD, it should be off, no advantage whatsoever.

Many folks say it works with their systems. Others have problems.
My personal opinion since I don't need 10 second startups is to turn it off.
I am one of those that have had nothing but trouble with it.

Thank you, I'll leave it off then.

I, on the other hand, use it all the time and have had no issues...so...

I never found fast startup provides much advantage on a SSD based PC. I've eveb had to turn off fast boot in the BIOS of my Gigabyte motherboard to avoid occasional boot hags.

it causes waking up issues on some computers if it is enabled and the screen doesn't switch on if you try to wake up the computer from sleep mode. it's better if you keep it disabled
