1909 way to go back to old search in explorer?

The new search in 1909 file explorer does not have any options. Or are there any options setting that I dont know about? How do you even clear the search history? It doesnt even predict the files youre searching for by populating them in the window as you type. Can I even just disable this and go back to the old search? Please help.

Hi, that's actually the major change in 1909 - widely documented if you care to do a general search.

You will also find that Advanced query search syntax is no longer helpfully highlighted in blue to indicate you got it right.

    E.g. type:mp3 datecreated:1/4/2015 .. 3/6/2015 etc

I found my cursor disappeared after trying to edit the search field after a search.

The new search in 1909 file explorer does not have any options.
    - not what I saw when I tried it.. what are you missing?

You can uninstall the CU for 1909 and revert to 1903- I did for this and one other reason.
You have Pro so you can set a feature deferral period of up to 365 days.

Yeah I see so much about it on the web. So is there still no way to clear the search history that auto populates in drop down menu?

Pretty terrible for MS to leave it broken, basically for me search doesnt find anything or sometimes it will. Sucks.

Explorer search and taskbar search are much more integrated now; taskbar search seems to find things indexed instantly, whilst file explorer search start from where its open, and works downwards. If files are not indexed, then search can be very very slow.

Windows search can be effective if you understand how it works and its limitations. It's also capable of content indexing- provided you have the ifilters installed for the file types of interest.

    Advanced query syntax
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...s-aqsreference
adds a lot of detailed options, but only useful if you use it regularly as some aspects are not available from the ribbon GUI.

So to say it doesn't find anything may mean you don't quite understand what's happening, or how you can configure what is indexed. (See Indexing Options). Sadly it's not intuitive.

There is a tenforums tutorial, but it does not cover the search syntax or ifilters - Brink is looking at doing one on ifilters.

Only once you do a search, will the Search Tab appear in the Ribbon Menu and then under 'Recent searches' there's a drop down with the 'Clear search history' option.

And you are not alone in seeing serious issues with 1909's explorer search changes.

Only by going back to 1903. Fortunately, if you upgraded to 1909 from 1903, this is simple. Just uninstall the Enablement Package KB4517245 in 'Windows Update > View update history > Uninstall updates'. If you clean-installed 1909 the Enablement Package cannot be uninstalled.

Thank you. I didnt realize you had to actually ENTER a search for the tab to appear, whereas before you only needed to click in the search field and it would appear.
