    Start. Search. Cortana not working

    Windows 10 and I think it's version 1903.

    Nothing happens when I click on any of the three buttons listed. I can't get to my Start menu, seach or even Cortana, if I used it.

    I found a link online that said to run that sfc /scannow. I did that and no problems were found.

    Can someone tell me how to get these three buttons on my taskbar active again?

    Thank you.

    If Cortana is not working, then reinstalling the app package for Cortana and re-registering Cortana may help fix it.

    This tutorial will show you how to reinstalling and re-registering Cortana for only your account (current user) in Windows 10.

    Reinstall and Re-register Cortana using the following procedure:

    1. If the Cortana search not working open the Windows PowerShell by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys, this will open a Task Manager.

    2. From Task Manager click on File from menu bar, and click on Run new task.

    3. Type powershell into "Create new task" input box.

    4. Make sure to have a check mark for "Create this task with Administrative privileges" check box and click on OK button.

    5. Execute following powershell commands one at time.

    Code:
    Get-Process  SearchUI | Stop-Process  –Force

    Get-AppXPackage -Name Microsoft.Windows.Cortana | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

    6. Restart your computer.

    Not sure about this but there is a bug reported on the web in the 1909 January update, "Bing and Cortana integration does not work well"?. I ran the Search reset tool from Microsoft https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...aspx?id=100295 but that did not fix it, I ended both Search and Searchindexer in Task Manager and that did not help, Restart did not fix it either, finally I added a DWORD in the registry: as suggested on the web : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search, BingSearchEnabled with a value 0 and shutdown then rebooted (instead of Restart) and that fixed the problem. But a much better solution is to delete the windows.edb database In: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows, as posted on this forum in 2016: With Windows Search service disabled, delete this file, re-enable Windows Search service and let Windows rebuild the database. I deleted the new DWORD I made in the registry and deleted the Search database instead, the result is better after booting (had a strange looking Search panel with the registry trick, now my old panel back)
