Edit Music file tags stored on OneDrive still not possible?

I noticed that when I upload any music file to OneDrive, all its tags disappear and I can't add any tags to it. When dragging the file back to my Desktop, the tags magically appear again.

Is there any way to add tags of music files stored on OneDrive?

    Hello @JohnnyGui,

Actually, I don't have OneDrive installed on my system.

I performed a test, sending an mp3 file to OneDrive via Firefox and as you can see, tags are still there:

...but there is no way to add or modify them, except file name that can be renamed.

I don't know what happens using installed OneDrive but I don't think that tags can be removed.

Are you sure that your mp3 files have tags embedded?
Perhaps, you can see tags through your player library but those tags could not be embedded in mp3 files.

If so, you may use a free tag editor, like MP3TAG and save or add/modify them.

They do have tags yes, but they can not be edited when they're on OneDrive.

I was indeed thinking of editing them in the player library, would these edits get stored in the OneDrive audio files if I ever do a clean install of Windows and open the player library again?

As I've mentioned, editing on OneDrive cannot be done. You have to edit your files on your PC and then upload them again so, your files will be updated, regardless of your OS condition.
OneDrive is an external storage, like an external hard disk.

I'm aware they can not be edited on OneDrive. I'm doubting that editing the files locally and then putting them on OneDrive would store the tags anyway. Because when opening WMP, it does not show the tags even after adding them locally and then putting them on OneDrive. So I have to add the tags in WMP again as well.

This would mean that every time after a clean install I'd have to add the tags in WMP which is a huge time waste.

WMP can see tags, if exist. No need to add tags again, if tags have been saved/embedded in files.
WMP cannot save/embed tags in files but only in WMP library so, tags will not exist after a clean OS install.

I ask you again: Are you sure that tags have been saved/embedded in files? And how do you check that?
A simple way is to right click on an mp3 file / Properties > Details tab.

There are plenty of decent free players (google for them) which indeed save tags in mp3 files, having nice library and editing tools. Also, as I've mentioned, you may use MP3TAG free app to edit/save tags.

I use OneDrive and all my music that is stored there has all of the tags.

As I said in my previous post, I have added and saved the tags in the files. I do check that by looking at the Details tab in Properties.

But as I mentioned as well: as soon as I transfer these audio files to OneDrive, the tags in the Details tab of Properties are gone. This is my problem.

Do you drag the audio files to the OneDrive directory in the embedded Windows explorer? Or do you drag them into a browser that is opened on OneDrive?

I had no issue with moving music files to OneDrive and them losing their metadata.

Out of curiosity I copied one of my music folders off my WD NAS drive into OneDrive and the metadata stayed intact....

I then attempted to change the metadata in the OneDrive folder and was successful at doing so and it stuck....

Not sure why the OP's files change. But mines don't... unless I change them. BTW I use dBpoweramp CD Ripper to rip my files from CD's. Other occasions I might use JRiver's Media Center to rip my files.

Anyway I don't keep my music collection in OneDrive, but rather my WD NAS.
