Black Screen for 80 seconds during statup (after Windows loading logo)

    Hello,

I have a HP Pavilion g6-1201tx Notebook and fitted a 256 GB SSD into it.

I clean installed Windows 10 Version 1909 using a USB.

However, during start up, after the Windows Logo spinning dots, the screen goes black for about 80 seconds.
Then the spinning dots come back for 1.5 seconds (without the Windows 10 logo).
Then I get the "Please wait" blue screen with spinning dots for another 1.5 seconds. Example: https://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content...d7899238ee.png

And then the account logs in.

    This happens every time.

I even reinstalled Windows 10 (clean installed 1909 once again) and nothing changed.

Is there any way to further diagnose what might be causing this? I think it's trying to install drivers or updates during every boot.

Have a look at the Startup page in Task Manager and see how many items you can disable,if any.
Also check if Reliability history is giving any entries relevant to the problem.

One drive often updates from a CMD prompt at startup

    1) Place the computer in clean boot:

Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 10 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts

    2) Regularly follow performance using the reliability control panel:
Reliability Monitor is the Best Windows Troubleshooting Tool You Aren’t Using

    3) During the black screens click these 4 keys simultaneously and report what you see and hear:
    Win + Ctrl + Shift + B

Pretty sure it updates after login, not before.

    1) I performed a clean boot as suggested and it changed nothing. This is happening prior to the login screen. If I am correct services start at the login screen and start up programs start after the login, right?
Correct me if I am wrong.

    2) I have attached a screenshot of the reliability monitor. Not much data since I clean installed Windows just a day ago.

    3) Win + Ctrl + Shift + B did nothing.

Also, I tried booting into safe mode and safe mode with networking. At at both times, the laptop booted instantly. No black screen.

Also try Autoruns to see what third party stuff is loading at startup. Do you have this problem on all accounts or just one account? If the latter, then you might have a corrupted user profile.

    1) Download and install HP Diagnostics UEFI:
    https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/.../pc-diags.html

    2) Boot to the BIOS with F2 or F10 > run the extensive loop until failure overnight > the next AM if it has completed 2 loops then click esc > run component tests as needed (some are interactive) > use a camera or smartphone camera to take pictures and post images into the thread

    3) Uninstall Avast using the applicable uninstall tool:
Avast Uninstall Utility | Download aswClear for Avast Removal

    4) Make sure Microsoft defender is on

Thank you for these answers guys, but I found the culprit.

It's the AMD display drivers. The laptop has a "AMD HD 6470M" but the drivers Windows drivers and official drivers from AMD.com detect it as 7400M series.

If I uninstall the drivers and run off Intel HD 3000 only, the laptop boots up instantly. No black screens. But if I let the laptop idle for 2 minutes, Windows simply installs the drivers and the issue is back again.

Disabling the device does not cause black screen and laptop boots up instantly but I have theoretically less performance now.

Drivers from AMD.com or the official HP drivers do not help. They all cause this issue.

Do I have any options here?

Suggest you install the correct drivers and block Windows driver updates - see Enable or Disable Driver Updates in Windows Update in Windows 10
