Please help! My surface go has become a brick.

Hello all! I was trying to decrypt my bit-locked C drive but the process went wrong. Now I cannot log into my windows. Worse still, the Windows installation media does not work either - my computer can be booted into the USB drive but it is stuck on a blank blue screen.

My Macrium Reflect recovery disk, which normally works, does not show the windows that allow me to recover a previous backup. I can use the command prompt tool that comes with the MR recovery disk, and I have formatted my C Drive. But there is a problem with my D drive, which is on a partition on the same SSD, and when I type the "D:" in the command prompt it just stops here.

    Please help. Thank you.

    I use Windows 10.

I presume you mean you have an image stored somewhere. I hope it is not stored on "d" i.e. the same disk as your "c" operating system.

Thanks for your reply, SIW2. My MR backups are stored on an external drive. My D drive contains nothing important, but I suspect that some problem with it is causing the Windows installation media and the MR recovery disk to fail to work properly.

Have you looked at the disk with some kind of explorer to see what the winpe drive letter assignments are? They might be different from what you expect.
Macrium is a particular nuisance in that regard as it attempts to change the winpe assignments.

You can borrow my boot media - it has windows explorer and other stuff as you can see from the pic below. Ideally the 183x64.iso should be extracted to usb because the 3rd party tools are intended to run from the usb stick. Easily extracted to usb with usb7ice

Many thanks for that! I am downloading your files now. By the way, I just tried a Rufus boot disk but it did not work either.

Try my boot media. If you get the same issue that indicates there is something about the disk that windows ( in this case winpe ) is having difficulty enumerating.

If that is the case, Linux boot media is often a better bet.

So if my boot media has the same problem - I would then try gparted boot media or something like parted magic. They might recognize the thing from the disk controller and let you delete everything and reformat so the disk is useable. If that works, then you should be able to restore your macrium image onto it.

May I know which one I should choose, i686 or AMD 64? My surface go has UEFI rather than BIOS.
