    Quick Access

On Windows 10 -I have Documents under Quick Access - that are identical to PC documents. If I delete a file on Quick Access it deletes it on PC. How do I get rid of the dual files and not loose anything? Is this taking up my storage or hard drive, I am running slower and slower?

Hello racennan, and welcome to Ten Forums.

These are both shortcuts to the same Documents folder to make it easy to access from either location.

If you like, you can unpin the Documents folder from Quick Access to remove it there.

Are you talking about file explorer. If so you can change that look.

Open file explorer, click the view tab, click the options tab at far right, click the "change folders and search options" pop up, under general tab, click the tab for "open file explorer to and change it from "Quick Access" to "This PC" then apply and OK. Close file explore and reopen it and now it's gone.

Brink, thanks for the reply. I tried to unpin it but there is no option for that - only to pin it - and when I try to click on that it is greyed and no response. Can Quick Access be deleted without loosing all my files? When I delete a file in QA it deletes it in PC also.

Do you have a Remove from Quick access option instead in the context menu?

Yes, you can remove Quick Access from the navigation pane if wanted.

Thanks Plankton, I did that and I assume I have to restart my computer for that to work because it is still there.
My concern is the amount of space having twice the amount of files is taking up and not being able to delete any of them as they are joined. Any solution? I would like to eliminate Quick Access entirely but everything I delete from AC is deleted from PC as well.

The only 'space' being taken up is visual space in the File Explorer view. There is only ever one copy of each file or folder on the hard drive, it's just that each may be shown twice in File Explorer.

Thank you Bree that is good to know. Windows C shows 1062 TB free of 1.79TB . Some of my older files will not open and this machine is running so slow that if I try to Chat with someone they assume I have left because their messages are coming thru super slow and when I try to load something it takes an greater amount of time that it should. Scanning a doc yesterday and only half of it actually went thru altho it said it was all there. Is this a memory problem? Harddrive?
