...That assumes that everyone dislikes it, and that it's not useful to anyone...

A feature can be both useful and annoying if not implemented well. When going to find an app in the All Apps list it only takes a careless stray a little too far to the left to hide the All Apps list from sight.

Hmm... so, after Mach2 worked yesterday then failed today I did a quick check with a PowerShell script to see what had been downloaded using the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS). The results showed only a background transfer of font info since the clean install of 1909 two days ago.:

I hate the auto expanding sidebar in 1909-bits_after_clean_install.png

I'm assuming that telemetry (I had it set to 'Basic') showed I had tampered with M$' default 1909 configuration (using Mach2) and that subsequently the ContentDeliveryManager package (part of the Microsoft Edge system app and which cannot be uninstalled via the UI) had been used (via WUDO, I assume) to restore M$' preferred default.

This is mildly irritating - to have my wishes ignored and overwritten - so I'm going to re-image and check:

    1. That the change is not reverted if the laptop does not connect to the internet (i.e. to confirm that the reversion IS the result of online communication with M$ - probably as the result of basic telemetry) rather than a check built-in to the OS. This will involve keeping my test laptop disconnected for a day or two after I've used Mach2 again.

    2. Whether the reversion occurs if I disable WUDO then re-enable internet access. (In which case, will telemetry revert to using BITS as a backup for asynchronous transfer? I can check BITS downloads (Event 59) with the Invoke-BitsDetection script I used for the screenshot.)

No doubt I'll get bored quickly but - for the moment - it's of interest.

PS - You can list all 'System' apps using PowerShell (in an elevated console):

    Code:
    Get-AppxPackage -PackageTypeFilter Main | ? { $_.SignatureKind -eq "System" } | Sort Name | Format-Table Name, InstallLocation

    Hope this helps...

In 1909 when I hover the mouse over the side-bar in the Start Menu, it expands to full size instead of just showing a tooltip like in 1903. I Hate this. Is there a setting somewhere to change it back to the way it was in 1903?
I totally agree . but some stated this obnoxious W10 update not a bothersome issue, it is more than annoying, the distraction itself is extremely irksome..

I don't see why they couldn't implement a classic feature...

Btw, is there any way to access the Feedback Hub via the web?

    Hello All,

I think issue has gone. I've just opened my laptop and Start menu works as before:
    No auto expand anymore.

    Is it only for me?

PS: I've sent to MS a feedback, upvoted and commented to other (2) similar feedbacks and some hours later...voila...

    UPDATE:
Unfortunately, it was a "mach2" tweak affection. Please read my last post.

This will be a late reply from me but I think I have a laptop at home with the latest version of Windows, I'll confirm if the Start Menu no longer auto expands. :P I'll get back to you in about 5h.

No magic here. Still obliterates left side.

I don't know what to say.
I had used "mach2" trick 2 days before (it worked) and then reverted to default (mach2 enable 18715789).
Then, yesterday, after failure above mentioned, retry it just to confirm and see myself that it didn't work which was true, then reverted it to default (mach2 enable 18715789...just in case) and now, 6 hours later, booting to my laptop, Start menu works as before.

Oh, the Mach thing. Well, there's no MS fix that has come down.
