My external drive isn’t inside my PC, it’s on my desk so it has plenty of space to cool.

Notice: The drive is on top of a box, but the box has holes poked into it for heat to get out. The box is full of holes.

I don't understand... Speccy says my external drive is 56'C yet when I put my hands on it, it's not even hot. It is just warm ish.

To me the real problem with the drive is the reallocated sector count. 348 is a large number. I don't know how many spare sectors a 1TB drive has.

Re your post 10.Have you methodically checked the "too many to screenshot" entries in Reliability History at all? Those entries ,more than likely, contain a clue[s] to your problem and ought not to be dismissed so lightly.

chkdsk and reallocated sectors are not synonymous. If it was my HDD I would be looking for a replacement, especially if you are using it for backup.

This stubborn update reinstalled itself automatically! Such outright disrespect to my permission and to my wishes as not to have this update on my system! Microsoft is incredibly rude!

It seems the KB4517389 in the link that Steve C provided was indeed the issue. I have uninstalled the update and have paused all other updates until the issue is resolved. Thank you all for your help.
