Force closed explorer.exe and turned off my PC.

I force closed explorer.exe and then turned my PC off and on again to try and restart explorer.exe.
It now seems that explorer.exe will not start. I can now do nothing but wave my mouse on a black background on my main screen. Everything is also displayed at a lower resolution, that dose not fit the screen.

The most likely issue is that the killing of File Explorer turned off the core of Windows before the shutdown occurred. Also involved about the display part is the driver/s for the video adapter and others are no longer loading. Best guess if a Reset can't be done Windows will have to be reinstalled.

If File Explorer is not working I've found the best solution is to manually turn off the computer using the power switch [hold it in for about 8-10 seconds], usually restarting doesn't have much trouble, performs just like a power failure.

    Welcome to Ten Forums ehullerichs.

There is one other thing you should be able to do, that is press Ctrl+Alt+Del. If that brings up a blue screen (as it should) then click on Task Manager. In Task manager click File > Run new task (you may need to click 'more details' first, if you don't see a File menu). Then type explorer.exe in the Run box and click OK. This will start up your desktop.

Now shut down and restart. Hopefully that should start up normally.
