PC crashed and I can't get into windows now

For the future make routine full system backups e.g. using Macrium Reflect Free when you have reinstalled and configured Windows. You can recover from such problems in about 10 minutes.

I was just reading this thread and for some unknown reason, my computer froze up and i had to reboot it.

But it's a 10 year old ASUS G73JH and i was told years ago that ASUS did not support Windows 10 on my system.

That from ASUS was suspect since it had installed and seemed to be working Ok, but now and then strange things do happen it might lose contact with the cordless mouse, and like today it will just freeze up.

I really like this large screened laptop ASUS and would hate to lose it.

I was just thinking the OPs problem might be with the computer.

I don't have time to try all those things right now or figure out what the different components are.
I think it's a gigabyte motherboard if that helps.

However, when I hit tab to go into post from the motherboard screen the screen just goes blank for a couple seconds and then starts into the recovery environment then... No beeps or anything. I guess I can take that as passing the POST at least?

There's an internal card reader in there that I think might have caused problems in the past so I might try and unplug that when I get a moment before messing with the CMOS battery....

So I finally got around to opening my case, updating system specds and disconnecting that damn card reader inside.

It was plugged into one of the usb ports on the motherboard F_USB3.
I had a sneaking suspicion that it was causing problems cause I seem to recall unplugging it years ago as I think it was conflicting with something and causing similar boot issues. Stupidly I forgot all that and plugged it back in awhile ago.

Anyway, that did the trick, I am able to access BIOS and the BOOT menu now.
I ran kiyahi's tools and looked into the drives.....
did the full test on the SSD in HD Tune 2.55 and it checks out alright, 100% green!

randomly the tools in there list them all as NTFS partitions not the RAW partition that I found on that text file from within the windows recovery environment.
The SSD still has a random partition of 100mb that must've been made by windows repair. it's just called system reserved.

Now I guess everythings all safe... Given that it messed with the partitions and didn't finish the install last time I tried, What's the best course of action now???
Try windows recovery environment again? try this macrium thing which I see has an option to set my original C drive back as the boot drive? OR download the windows 10 stuff onto a USB and do a fresh install from there??

When the computer is powered on what do you see and hear?

Can the computer boot to the desktop?

bloody hell I think I just made it worse, tried that macrium thing in the kiyahi tools to reset the boot stuff on the partition with my original windows stuff and it threw up an error when writing the BCD.

So now when I boot up I get my gigabyte screen, then it just goes into a black screen that tells me the BCD is ****ed up and it can't boot. then it cycles back to the gigabyte screen. I can still get to boot options (F12) and load kiyahi NT windows through usb. So what to do next? Fresh install windows 10 from a USB??? Do I need to reformat my SSD drive to fix those boot problems first? I see there are BCD editing tools in here but I don't really know what to do with them...

Options depend on the status of the important files.

If there are important files then Kyhi boot rescue or Ubuntu can be used (GUI interface) to backup files.

A reset save files equivalent may be able to be performed using the Windows 10 iso (reinstall drivers and applications).

A clean install can be performed if there are no important files.

Troubleshooting steps can be performed. These may take significant time.
