Okay thanks Zbook, The files on there aren't too important, it was mostly just the OS and a few apps. Might as well try the windows 10 ISO to see if I can keep the apps at least.

If there are no important files the best option is clean install:
Clean Install Windows 10
If there are important files the next best option is a custom install:
Custom Install Windows 10
Neither of these options keep applications.
Both require the reinstallation of drivers and applications.
Troubleshooting which may take significant time and may not fix the boot failure is the only option to maintain applications.
A backup image could be made with Macrium and you could troubleshoot in the future if there are critical applications.
Okay, that's good info, I'll just do the clean install then! Troubleshooting sounds like a pain in the arse and I'm sure I can get the apps again.
Just a side note, I tried to make a backup image of the SSD onto an external drive and it failed for some unknown reason, giving me an error code of 08 (iirc). Hopefully this isn't a sign of some deeper problem.
For Macrium error troubleshooting please open a new thread in this forum room:

did a fresh install, all the errors seem to be gone!
many thanks for all the advice.
That's great news.
A clean install allowed 7GB storage to improve future updates / upgrades.
Windows 1909 is expected to be released this week:
Windows 10 1909 (November 2019 Update) System Requirements
You're very welcome.
