Mystery solved, sort of. I stopped the wmp service and the PC went to sleep! I started it up again and the PC doesn't sleep.

The only remaining mystery is why this started happening? WMP has been set up this way for years with no issues until the recent update to Win 10 v1903. That update also killed my ability to print from this PC over Wi-Fi to my printer even though my other 2 PCs (also running Win10 v1903) can do so. I solved that problem by hooking the printer to this PC with a USB cable.

My smart TV connects to WMP on my PC to play music and videos from my collection. Been that way for years. So, I think I will live with the current situation. My TV is connected to a high quality sound system (7 speakers run off a receiver) so that is good to use for music and videos.

If someone has more ideas on things to look into or try, feel free to do so!

AndreTen, It was set to prevent idling to sleep. I changed it to allow the computer to sleep and it did. I've changed it back to prevent sleeping since I'm guessing I don't really want the PC to sleep if I'm listening to music or videos. I assume that the streaming to my TV would stop then. I'll do an experiment when playing music to see what actually happens with the setting is to allow sleeping.

Oh, my - so many settings and so little time to find them all!

    Thanks,
    Larry

Printer won't print. I would uninstall printer and re-install.

Caledon Ken, The printer is printing. There is another thread, started by me, that worked on the printer problem. Many things, including driver reinstalls (maybe 5 or 6 times) did not work. Connecting with the USB cable makes it work so I'm happy with the printer.

Back on the original subject of PC not sleeping, it did go to sleep last night. Surprise! And the multimedia setting is set to prevent sleep when sharing media. This stuff seems random. Or maybe just turning that setting off and then on again fixed something.

    Maybe all is fixed now.

There was a patch a couple of weeks back that broke printing for some. I will see if I can find and post.

Not sure it is applicable after reading. Yours is printing with USB.

When you connect through network are there jobs in the print queue blocking print?

Caledon Ken, I really appreciate your help but I'm not interested in pursuing the printer issue any more since I can print just fine with the USB connection from this PC and via Wi-Fi from the other PCs. I spent a lot of time, and so did others, trying to rectify the issue. I even tried going back to the earlier Win 10 release and the problem was there too. So I moved back to the v1903.

The other thread documenting the printer issue is at

No printer driver after upgrade to Win V1903

    Thanks again,
    Larry

Larry, you can mark this thread as Solved now. It helps other to find solutions to similar problems.
