Has the status bar definitely disappeared from File Explorer in 1903?

    Hello all,

I recently upgraded my PC's to 1809, then 1903. I've noticed that File Explorer doesn't show a status bar anymore. All I can find about this topic are old threads about insider builds and ways to make the status bar hide or appear (via View -> Options and/or the Registry), but I've already tried those and no status bar appears. Neither can I find anything in Microsoft's information about updates. So, does anyone know if it has gone for good? That would be a shame, as I found the number of selected files in the status bar quite handy.

Any help and/or information will be greatly appreciated.

    Regards, Jaap.

It's still there on my RTM versions, View tab, Options, View tab again, scroll down past half way.

'View > Show status bar' works for me in RTM 1903, I can toggle it on and off. Make sure you remember to click the 'Apply' button.

Sometimes, when things stop working as the should, simply selecting Restart from the power button will fix it.

Did you try a Restart from Start's Power button?

Still not working? Do you use any 3rd-part 'explorer modifiers' such as OldNewExplorer?

We get all levels of ability asking questions here. After 11 post we hardly know you yet. I'm sorry if I stated the obvious, but I had to try and cover all bases

Hello Bree, thanks for replying. Restarting doesn't help, and I use no ‘explorer modifiers’ as far as I know. I firtst noticed the absence of the status bar when upgrading one of my PC's to Windows 10-1809 or -1903, that's where my question comes from. SFC and DISM don't report any problems.

That would have been my next suggestion. What build number does Winver say you have? For 1903 I would expect it to say 18362.418 if it is fully up to date.

Do you sign in with a Microsoft account? If so, and you sign in with the same account on more than one PC, then it may be a problem to do with syncing the settings across your machines.

Do you have any other accounts on this PC? Do you have a local account you could use? If so, sign in to that and see if the status bar works there. If not, you could create a new local account to test this.

You could look in the registry to see if the value that controls this is actually being set correctly when you change the option in Explorer. Look in Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced for the value of the REG_DWORD ShowStatusBar.

You could try changing the value yourself while Explorer is closed then open Explorer to see if it has any effect on the status bar. It should be 1 to display or 0 not to show it.
