Has the status bar definitely disappeared from File Explorer in 1903?

    Hello Bree,

thanks for your reaction! The Dutch, or more specifically, the citizens of Amsterdam, have an expression: "Krijg nóú wat!", meaning, literally, "NOW get something!" It is used to express you're flabbergasted, and it's exactly what I said when following your advice to log in with a different local account. This user has a status bar with his/her Explorer, no problem.

I only sign in with local accounts on all three of my PC's.

I'm beginning to wonder whether I'm not using an "Explorer modifier" after all. I do use WinAero to get the old Alt-Tab dialogue back and to make the Windows version visible in the lower right-hand corner of the desktop. However, I've been doing that for years, and it never interfered with the Explorer status bar.

My Windows version is "Build 18362.19h1_release.190318-1202". I've just checked for updates and got the message that Windows was up to date. I've noticed that on one of my other PC's with that same version and the same use of WinAero, I do have the status bar visible in Explorer.

I had already tried modifying the DWORD ShowStatusBar in the Registry; it had the right value, but I changed it from 1 to 0 and back again, restarting in between, without result.

Can you think of any more suggestions? Thanks a lot for your time and trouble!

    Regards, Jaap.

Good, that shows your Windows is working OK....

In the UK we'd say "Well, wouldn't you know it!" or "blow me down with a feather!"

WinAero could well have done it (don't use it myself). The only suggestion I have is to go into WinAero and reset everything back to default. Then make your preferred mods one by one until you find which one was the culprit.

The second one has the right feel to it.

I'll try your suggestion. Thanks for the help!

Sadly, turnning off all tweaks from WinAero didn't help. I didn't really expect it to, because on one of my other PCs, the same tweaks don't interfere with the showing of the status bar by Explorer. Still, it was worth a try.

    Pity

    You have two choices remaining:

    • Learn to live with it (recommended). Explorer's Details pane provides much of the same information.
    • Create a new user account (making it an administrator) and move all your user files over to it, recreating all your settings too (too much like hard work).

Well. I'll keep an eye out for any new suggestions on the net, see if anything turns up. But thanks for your time and trouble!

    Hello,

Glad I find this thread, I have exactly the same trouble with 1809 and 1903 Win 10 version.

It is very irritating, for now I stay on 1803 because I can't live without the details/pictures switch buttons who are included in the explorer status bar.

If I log in the built-in Administrator account, the status bar is back but I need it on my personal account of course.

I see. Probably we'll have to wait for an update to see the problem solved. *Sigh*.
