Not to argue but if I shut off my Asus screen and turning it back on I get the word ASUS in big white font. No reboot.

Is this the logo you see?

I also get another logo as it boots, Asus's ROG.

If it is ASUS in big white letters check power cable to monitor.

I hope you all don't think I've gone away or that I don't appreciate all you've said. It takes time, that's all. Presently I am testing a 'loaner' monitor and I have a new cable on hand. After updating the video card drivers, I went maybe a day and a half with no problems, and thought I had it licked. Then I not only had that prolonged flickering (this time in the middle of Skyrim (that's never happened before) each 'on-and-off' seemed to come sooner after the last and each 'off' seemed to last longer, until the screen just went black and wouldn't come back no matter what I did. had to do a 'reset' or soft boot.

That's why I am testing the alternate monitor. And if this problem recurs i have the alternate cable. meantime the computer shop is testing my monitor.

And yes, it is the Asus logo (big white letters) I see for a moment. No reboot, no loss of data...usually.

    Good luck.

Starting to sound like monitor. Interesting that it would occur just after update to Windows 10. Wonder if the new card is driving the monitor harder, maybe increased refresh rate.

Do post results of monitor test.

Could you reinstall Windows 10 on this machine? Sounds like it could be a corrupt OS files, etc. If not a hardware issue.
