localhost missing

For many years I have used a program called get_iplayer which downloads BBC TV programmes.
When the programme has been selected get_iplayer starts with:

"Listening on 127.0.0.1:1935"

Now it has just started issuing the following message:

http://localhost:1935
Application not found
Access is denied

This is not a get_iplayer problem.
Can anyone please tell me how I can restore localhost:1935?

Local host is defined in the host file check it's in there

Could something else you've recently installed have already taken that port? You can check that win the CurrPorts utility from Nirsoft. This is what it should look like when iPlayer is running correctly. See what it looks like before you open iPlayer, it should tell you what (if anything) may already be listening on that port.



Runs fine for me on version 1903, build 18363.418.

1 Host file just shows

So I'm still baffled.

It may be unrelated to the server part of the application. Relaunch, ignore the error message and navigate to http://localhost:1935 in your web browser. If that works, open another command prompt and run

start http://localhost:1935

and see if you get the error message. That is the final command in the batch script that launches get_iplayer, so you've may have done something to your machine that prevents it from running. I've no idea what that would be, however.

I navigated to that address and got the get_iPlayer frame.
Then I entered the command via W+R and got the message "Windows cannot find "start".
But when I went back to the get_iPlayer page it was all there and is now downloading.
I am confused by the Windows message but grateful that it now works.
Is this a one-off procedure or do I need to do it every time until I find out what's causing it?

As I said, you need to open another command prompt to test the "start" command (it's not an independent utility), It now seems clear that is where the problem lies. You'll have to manually connect in your browser each time, but you can bookmark the URL. You can avoid the problem entirely by using the get_iplayer command line interface.

Sorry to be so thick, but exactly how and where do I open another get_iplayer command prompt?
I have tried the various cmd files in the get_iplayer folder but none of them accept input.
And what is the name of the batch file that you mentioned?
My apologies but up till now I have only dealt at the GUI level.
