Problems Ive noticed in Windows 10 1903

Problems that occur in 1903 and not in 1809
    - Mouse stutters for a few seconds when you click shut down, as it shows the "Shutting Down"
    - Ending the User Manager Service puts the PC in an extremely unstable sate, ex: Inability to shut down / restart, and a few others I cant remember (User Manager service was always stoppable with no problems in 1809)
    - Forced vsync / stutter when using programs like Flux f.lux: software to make your life better
    - Slower Logon time (1809 was instant, Password Prompt > Desktop, but 1903 Password Prompt > "Welcome..." for 1 - 2 secs)
    - Longer Windows Logo on boot with 1903 by 5 secs
    - 1809 mouse loading circle for less than a second after logon, 1903 mouse loading circle for 5-10 secs after logon

I won't test all your observations but will say --

    1. I noticed no mouse stutters during "Shutting Down" and wonder why that would even be a problem?
    2. Why not use Night Light?
    3. Zero difference in bootup speed

    1. Indication of instability
    2. So basically Im not allowed to use custom software until the problem is fixed? its a PROBLEM not looking for alternatives
    3. There is a slight difference in boot up, Ive tested it on the same pc, with fresh installs and disabled all startup programs, even used a tool called AutoRuns by Sysinternals to take it a step further

Perhaps. But kind of inconsequential. Like the system misspelling something somewhere. Does it have a consequence, or is it just sloppy coding?

You're welcome to use software that may no longer work. You're also welcome to avoid native software that does.

I'll add my two cents to this one because I find it extremely disrespectful when someone says use this instead of that when trying to solve a problem. I don't use NVidia cards but when a person has a problem with one I don't tell them to get an AMD card. If an item they're using is supported under said OS they have a right to expect it to work. I see no problem with that.

That said, @PolisP, if your software is acting strange after an OS update you need to check with the vendor for new patches or updates. Microsoft can't be responsible for vendors not updating their software. And it's no secret Windows basically gets a new refresh every 6 months.

As to your other issues, I've not noticed any slowed shutdown or startup issues. I've also not noticed any mouse stuttering with my Logitech MX Master 2S. And I've been on 1903 since first released to general public a few months back.

    My two cents.

    Sygnus,

I meant no disrespect. F.lux is a very simple software that does one job. There's a native software in Windows (now) that does the same function. Normally when an OS incorporates a third party software functionality, that app will begin a slow and steady death spiral. I was merely trying to save headaches.

Your analogy, by the way, isn't analogous. I'm not asking this user to make a purchase, pull open their hardware, and try out a new config. I think it is rude of you to suggest I was making any such a request of PolisP.

Just a day ago a friend on my FB asked, for her friend in China, why an MS Word .doc won't open in China. That could be hours of headaches and so I encouraged the Chinese friend to install LibreOffice and try to open it that way. It worked. Yay.

Apologies. My post may be worded a bit harshly as reading your post, I don't think you meant any disrespect. Trust me, I've seen worse and yours is nowhere near my indignant level on this issue so apologies.

On this I beg to differ in that though one is hardware and the other is software, it's still the same principle - instead of solving a problem one is told to replace the offending item with something different. Whether hardware or software the result is still the same... replace the offending item instead of dealing with the item and its issue. BUT... again, I see that's not what you really meant.

Just a day ago a friend on my FB asked, for her friend in China, why an MS Word .doc won't open in China. That could be hours of headaches and so I encouraged the Chinese friend to install LibreOffice and try to open it that way. It worked. Yay.

But what if they actually preferred MS Word? Even though they're using an alternative the real issue has NOT been solved. And it could be a symptom of something else.

Anyway your friend might be happy with the change, but not everyone is willing to dump a program they like and should work with their given OS. That's my point.
Again, apologies for sounding a bit harsh. I just want to make clear a user shouldn't be required to dump a program because others feel it's useless or otherwise. That if a user wants to use a particular program that they're having issues with, telling them to switch to something different isn't solving their problem, it's just masking it, and perhaps hiding a bigger problem elsewhere.

    Thanks

I appreciate your regrouping, but you're still putting words into my mouth. All I said was, "Why not use Night Light?" Where does that say f.lux is useless? Where do I require the user to switch? I didn't even say you should use Night Light. I asked why not (use a native solution more likely to work)?

By asking that question the user may have learned that Night Light existed. Or the user might have said f.lux is way better, explained why, and I might have learned something. (I used it years ago on the Mac and dumped it when they offered the functionality natively.)

(I'm all for third party apps, by the by. I'm not a use MS or you're on your own type. Most of my primary software on my PC is 3rd party. Google, Firefox, Libre, etc.. Even my screen snapshot software is 3rd party. But I prefer the native Night Light. It just works.)

In regards to my successfully solving a friend of a friend's issue with China and MS Word, you ask but what if they wanted Word to actually work in China. Fine. Sometimes a work around is helpful (as was the case) and sometimes it isn't. Work arounds are a common part of tech support.

"My phone won't charge any longer. How do I reinstall the OS?" Answer, "Before you do that, have you tried a different charger? Or the cable?" "Have you tried cleaning out the USB C port of debris?" They may be the wrong answers. They may have already tried that. But since I'm not a mind reader, I try the simpler solution first. That doesn't make me extremely disrespectful.

I'm not putting words your mouth. I acknowledged what you said, and agree you didn't mean what I posted. Again, I'm just providing my own take on things (since I brought it up). And yes... there's always exceptions to the rule, but I'm looking at this from a general sense - solve the problem not hide it with something else. Again, generally speaking.

Anyway based on the back and forth let's agree to disagree agreeably and move on.

    Peace
