    Excel JPEG to jpg


    Windows 10 Home.
    I am wanting to rename and number about 30 photos sent by a friend. I have never had any difficulty doing this: just bag them up, name the first one, Enter, and they are all named and numbered.
    This time I am getting two number ones, two number twos and so on. I see that a JPEG file comes first, followed by a JPG file - if there is one. If there isn't a JPG photo in the sequence, the numbering advances.
    They were taken by the same Nikon camera on the same day and within minutes of each other but I see from their 'Properties' that some are JPG and some JPEG.
    There is lots of advice on the internet but I can't make anything work.
    I have Paint, of course, VLC, Fastone.
    I would be grateful for any advice that I can follow.

    I have no problem naming files.
    The numbering of those files diffentiates between JPEG and JPG; it puts the JPEGS first in the numbering order.
    I do have a problem with changing them from JPEG to JPG - nothing seems to work.

    Not sure if this applies, but this is what I would do:

    1) Open any folder
    2) Press View ‒> Options
    3) Press the View tab
    4) UNcheck: Hide extensions for known file types (refer to the attached image)
    5) Press Apply, press OK

    6) (Changing images from JPEG to JPG in Microsoft Paint will rarely cause the newly saved images to lose picture quality.) You may open each JPEG in Paint and re-save it as a JPG, or...
    7) You may just simply rename the ".jpeg" to ".jpg" in the file name. Yet you said there are two of the same name, for example
    2.jpeg
    2.jpg

    8) If that's the case (from my understanding of your post), select all the images in the folder to see the total number of images in that folder. Assuming that there are 30 images in the folder, go to the last listed image in the folder and rename it to: 30.jpg
    9) Now rename the image above it as: 29.jpg
    and so forth...

    Hopefully this is a solution to your post.

    Thanks, pepanee , that works.
    Regarding the other suggestions (for which I am grateful), my pc seems to be different to others. This is a Home Version, perhaps that makes a difference.
