Any Windows initiated shutdown/restart results in failure to POST

Ok, definitely related to the secondary HDD. Without HDD, restart functions as expected. After reinstalling HDD, restart works 1 time and then not again. Tested a few times to make sure.

I installed the HDD the same day I received the laptop and I'm fairly certain the problem didnt exist for a couple months after that time, although I've been wrong on worse accounts.

Is the HDD failing? Or is there a way to slow down boot to allow time for the drive to initialize? Fast boot in bios is disabled.

Should I start a different thread in the hardware section?

When you installed this second drive did you have to use some sort of adapter?

The laptop came with a SATA to ribbon adapter that I used for the drive.

Boot drive is listed as "Good 100%", no warnings, no errors. 72 "unsafe" shutdowns. Probably from holding the power button to restart :|

Secondary drive is yellow "Caution". 100 reallocated sectors. Yellow warnings for "Current Pending Sector Count" 100 and "Uncorrectable Sector Count" 100

I don't have anything on it that I can't replace. I'll get a new drive in the next few days. I really appreciate your help and patience! I think this mystery is solved as a hardware failure.

The logs started on 10/5/2019 and today is 10/6/19.
So there was very limited data to scan.

In the 1 day logs there were no BSOD or unexpected shutdowns / restarts.
There were no startup repairs.


If the computer components are new and under warranty then you can report corrected hardware errors for possible Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA).

As far as I can tell beep codes arent a feature of this laptop.

Thank you for finding that in the log! I'll be able to test further with a new drive at a later date, if the issue is gone I'll chalk it up to a bad HDD and if the issue persists I'll submit to Asus for repair. I have another 5 months or so remaining on the manufacturer warranty.
