    Hi Ken.
no- was going to buy one on ebay for a tenner

but then changed my mind and bought cheap spare duplicate PC (to try swapping/testing hardware)
    but that didnt arrive... (ebay-hmmm)

UPDATE: just bought one on ebay.

    Hi
I am wondering that too so have ordered another to test.
The thing that puzzles me is why on earth this started immediately after win10 was installed.
I did update the bios too around then (I think) so maybe that's relevant?

Can you explain what those instructions in post 106 actually do, achieve, check etc. I've completed countless tasks you have suggested throughout this thread yet I still don't understand what some of them:
    1. were supposed to be finding
    2. actually did find

Also- perhaps you could reply to some of my previous questions too Zbook?
    thanks

The vanilla type clean install is to check hardware.
There is no connection to the internet.
There are no drivers installed other than Microsoft default drivers that come with the iso. (some may be third party)
    There are no installed applications.
The computer is tested for stability / instability for one week.
If there is stability then a connection is made to the internet.
Drivers are added one at a time over the second week.
If there is instability (BSOD or unexpected shutdown or restarts) then remove nonessential hardware.

    .
    Ok- ty for explanation.
So if I have already stress tested H.Ware twice, replaced Hard drive, and done two very long tests on ram and run HP diagnostics for 10-12 hours plus running hdinfo64, & used temp software for weeks, what other Hardware component do you suspect might be at fault?

If you read through the last few days posts you will see I have ordered a replacement PSU to try.

imo if it's not the PSU then the only other problem could be the motherboard? Do you agree?

( I'm asking this because I'm trying to avoid more days of running tests when I have already run so many. I cant really use the machine fully if it has no internet and if you recall I explained the system never reboots when idle so running such a test as you describe could be pointless)

Also- I've explained in this thread that I can have as few as zero reboots in 3 weeks and as many as 36 in 48hrs, so again the test wont necessarily show anything in one week. Wouldn't you agree?

My nephew gave me a Sony Vaio that was shutting down / restarting.
I opened the laptop and took out the DVD/CD-BR drive that wasn't working properly and installed a small heat sink on the chipset (It came without one).
Also cleaned the CPU / GPU heat sink and replaced the thermal paste.
Never had any shutting down / restarting since.

    My suggestions:
    - If you have a DVD/CD drive, disconnect the SATA and power cable. As you have also a HDD, do the same on it.
    - open the case and put your hand on the heat sinks (CPU, CPU voltage controllers (near the CPU) and chipset. The temperatures should be no more than 50ºC

    Hi
    ty for suggestion.
I have software monitoring those temps. (all good)
Also- I did 'test' temp those areas before with my hand previous and it has never felt hot.

    reboots drastically down....
    Only one today
    quite puzzling
