If you look in event viewer can you provide any more info on error you listed above?
    yes:

each one has this info: (stars are variables)

The application \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Windows\System32\******with process id **** stopped the removal or ejection for the device ****

    Hi Zbook
Just to let you know I tried Driver verifier before (and it crashed system quickly) but no dump files were ever created. in fact nothing in the past month has created a dump file (and yes they are enabled)
so do you still want me to run driver verifier and send you V2 files?
will that give you the info you need?

These are the TF and Microsoft links on Windows driver verifier that were posted earlier in the thread:

Please report into the thread whether the ST500 drive is or is not connected when the computer has unexpected shutdowns or restarts. If possible disconnect this drive during the troubleshooting process.

    thanks

yes- i saw them but struggled understanding what options to choose. when i did it myself last month- at least SIX times- i followed the instructions in this site exactly but still couldnt access any logs afterwards. I searched high and low for DMP files but there were none.
Shall i do exactly the same again? is it worth it if it didnt work before?

    what is the st500 drive?
fyi I have disconnected everything and even changed mouse/keyboard. last night rebooting every 15 minutes. this moring better but not holding my breath (typing quick!)

Update- i am still going to try and fix this pc but just bought a duplicate machine for 130 on ebay because i cant cope with what happened yesterday

SIXTEEN reboots in last 24 hours

Now i am convinced its hardware and not software...
this sense of trying to find a needle in a haystack is wearing me down

    Its been 6 week now...

This machine works SO fast since i put on win10. (it was slow sluggish with win7) and so am hoping duplciate which comes preinstalled with win 10 will be fine.

I'd happily pay someone to check this current machines motherboard and psu but not sure it would be cost effective?

In posts #6 and #9 you posted test results into the thread.
The images displayed problems on the tested drive.

    yes- unplugged already. thanks

Now have machine open and going to test PSU temperature on next reboot....
I read somewhere if it's hot it's indicative of a faulty power unit

    For any BSOD:

    a) run the V2 log collector to collect new log files

    b) open file explorer> this PC > C: > in the right upper corner search for: C:\Windows\memory.dmp
    > if the file size is < 1.5 GB then zip > post a separate share link into the thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive

Please upload V2 into the thread for any BSOD.
Please post a share link for any new memory.dmp

How come the customized settings in this link were not used?
