USB Mouse wont activate most programs: Changed USB Mouse: Didnt help

    Hi:

My USB mouse, when clicking on something like "Start" icon or "Run" wont activate it. It'll flicker on for a second and then disappear.

Say I launch Firefox, using the mouse. It will launch, but nothing happens when I click on any links in the browser. So in some regards, it does things, in other regards --the most vital ones-- it totally fails to!

I just get a very brief view of the launched program, but it rapidly disappears. Of course, I tried two other USB mice. Same happened.

I tried rebooting many times. Eventually normal function of the mouse returns, much to my delight. But then if i restart the PC, same will happen. The mouse becomes essentially dysfunctional

    sfc \scannow says:

"Windows Resource Protection found some corrupt files, but was unable to fix some of them. For online repairs details are included in the CBS logfile located at windir\logs\CBS\CBS.log.
For example C:\Windows\logs\CBS\CBS.log . For offline repairs details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag "

I have no idea exactly how to go about repairing those, if it is even possible to do so. Its very hard to navigate when the mouse isnt really working..and it isnt clear if those detials will actually tell me what to do to fix this?

Also: What does /OFFLOGFILE flag mean. And how can I get to it. And what to do with it once I do?

    Thanks

    Code:
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

The above command will not work if Windows Update service not working correctly. After above command finished execute Sfc /Scannow command.

Also see if mouse works in Safe Mode.

I ran that DISM command. It got to 100%

I clicked ENTER and it just stays there.

Should i now try to open a new command box and run sfc /scannow?

Give it some time to finish it will get stuck sometimes but should finish if not close Command Prompt and execute Dism command again.

You can also execute Sfc command and see it will repair corrupted system files.

i am runnnig the sfc command now in another box hoping it will repair files....im letting the command box with the DISM command just sit there n blink meanwhile..

The SFC command finished and gave me same file/erro message as before...So im running DISM command again. Hopefully this run will be more productive...

The DISM command completed and got message that it been rfestored. Im running sfc scannow again

SFC says it found corrupted files and fixed them-unlike last time around.

I rebooted and all was well. But then I tried rebooting again, and it was back to where the mouse couldnt execute most programs. Sometimes signing out and signing back in , gives its functionality back..more often than not, it doesnt..

In Safe Mode all was the one time i tried it. Cant really know if I'd get same result next time in Safe Mode.

Might it be some app or program causing this, and if so how would I find out?

Right now the mouse is working in this text I'm composing, but if I try to use it to open Start Menu or Run, those flash on for only a second or so..then disappear. So I cant really run the pc that way

any ideas as to how to solve it and whats causing it?

    Thanks

Perform a clean boot state to find out if any one of the startup programs causing the issue.
