"The case of the missing Windows Security Notification Icon..."
Dalchina/Berton,
The case of the missing Windows Security Notification Icon has been solved and I feel rather embarrassed to admit but it appears to have been self-inflicted…
I installed a programme called Bootracer a few days ago which measures how long the computer takes to boot up and shows the delays introduced by various start-up programmes. Within the programme is the ability to turn any of these off to speed up the boot process. As this was the only bit of software I had installed in the last few days I uninstalled it just in case and the missing icon was back. What had presumably happened was that I had disabled the Windows Security Notification. However what misled me was that the Windows Security Notification Icon was shown as enabled in ‘taskbar settings – select which icons appear on the taskbar'. It was also shown as enabled in 'task manager – start-up' although it was disabled in Bootracer.
I subsequently re-installed Bootracer and was able to make the ‘problem’ re-appear. I decided that knowing whether my PC booted up in 24.748 seconds or 25.625 was pretty irrelevant and sent Bootracer packing…
So as I said it was self-inflicted and my apologies for troubling you guys. I’ve been using TenForums for a while and it’s a great place for help and advice.
Regards,
taid
