    Part of the win 10 start menu is missing when searching

    So my Laptop is on the latest update but one thing i noticed whenever i type in the search bar, the left part of the start menu goes missing (where the sign in, settings and feedback buttons are when your searching for something) Instead it shows whatever is on the forefront of the desktop (either the desktop itself or a video etc) Any clue as to why this is happening?

    That is completely normal behaviour for 1903. As soon as you start typing the Start menu closes and is replaced by the Search window. If you have the search icon showing next to Start on the task bar you can open search directly and won't see the start menu at all.

    Hide or Show Search Box or Search Icon on Taskbar in Windows 10

    Huh i thought my PC was at 1903 turns it its still on 1809, surprised microsoft hasn't prompted me to upgrade... Anyway yeah i have been confused because the laptop (bottom screenshot) different to PC (top screenshot) There anyway to get it kinda back to the 1809 look?

    EDIT: Forgot to mention both search bars are hidden on both PC and laptop, kinda liked it just in start menu. I think its because they removed Cortana or something from the search bar right?

    No, there's no way to make 1903 search look and behave like 1809.

    Search and Cortana's functions have been completely separated for 1903 and their behaviour has been redesigned. They now each have their own icon or button on the taskbar, either or both of which can be hidden. Typing into Start will still bring up search though, as you are used to.

    1) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
    2) sfc /scannow
    3) dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
    4) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    5) sfc /scannow
    6) chkdsk /scan
    7) wmic recoveros set autoreboot = false
    8) wmic recoveros set DebugInfoType = 7
    9) bcdedit /enum {badmemory}
    10) net user test /add

    11) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

    12) After posting the results into the thread > reboot > logon with the new user named test > report into the thread whether there are any changes in the start menu
