Unusual Power Behaviour.

The last two days, my laptop has been failing to power up on mains, the only work around for now is having to do a re-boot before it will kick in on the mains supply, I haven't changed any settings, or never been in or near the BIOS. Once I have done a re-boot, the mains power remains connected.

I have tried with no luck on the internet for any solution, but unable to find anything. Any help would be appreciated.

(HP Pavilion 15-AB270SA, 8GB Ram. 1TB HDD. Version 1903 (build 18362.356)

HP chargers have a third wire connected to a centre pin, this uses the 1-wire protocol to identify the charger's capabilities to the laptop. If this centre pin does not make good contact in the socket the laptop may not recognise the charger and will refuse to accept it. Carefully cleaning the pin and the socket may help in this case.

The worst case scenario is that the wire is broken, either in the charger's cable or the socket on the PC may have become disconnected from the circuit board. Either of these could happen, for example, if you ever tripped over the lead, pulling it it out of the laptop.

All of the connections appear to be fine, nothing is loose as far as I can see, it's just strange why it springs to life when I re-boot. When I do power off after I have finished for the evening, I then switch the mains back on, but the light on the side of the laptop fails to come on, this is without unplugging the power pack.

Well, at least that rules out the adapter or its third wire being the problem.

I understand that the HP Pavilion 15-AB270SA has a removable battery. A standard recommendation for any laptop with battery or charger problems is to remove the power cord and the battery then press and hold the power button for at least 30 seconds. See if that helps.

If not, I'm out of ideas. Perhaps someone with an HP Pavilion 15-AB270SA will be along to offer advice.
