photos showing a lot bigger than they are, how can i fix ?

Hi I know nothing about pictures really I just take them on my phone then transfer them to laptop via usb cable. I had taken some pics on my Xperia xa1, transferred them to my geo notebook like I had done several times before without any problem. This time when I try to open the photos with photos on windows 10 it says "it appears that we don't support this file format" the first file is DSC_005.JPG. I transferred 2 lots of photos into 2 new folders on the same day and one folder is fine. The only difference I can see under properties is the ones that worked have jpg in small and the ones that didn't have it in capitals. The ones that won't open supposedly are 8GB in size each totalling 6.5TB but the notebook only has 32gb memory! I did nothing differently in transferring the 2 lots of photos so right now I am confused.com but hoping not to have lost the photos of my family holiday

Are the photos still on your phone? If yes, delete the bad ones then transfer them from your phone to your computer again. Maybe try just one at first to see what happens.

I started to reply but then got the feeling the question may be more about the file sizes displayed rather than the actual image size.

You cannot open a 6.5TB file on a 32GB disk,As previously suggested, delete the rogue file and try again,if possible. Some type of error was made in the initial transfer which might be recorded in Event Viewer and/or Reliability History.

Look at the file size of those in question that the OP hs posted. They want to shrink the RAW size of the image.

The photos are no longer on the phone, as I had done this lots of times before with no problems I didn't foresee this happening

I have noticed you have NTFS compression enabled for that folder. Disable it as it serves no useful purpose.
