Completely blank Start menu, after trying to Pin "This PC" to it.

I recently installed Win10 on my machine. It is the LTSC 64-Bit 1809 version.

After trying to pin This PC to the Start menu, for easier access to my files, my Start menu gone completely blank.

I've attached here a screenshot of my desktop with the start menu open... couldn't be more straight forward.

Searching for an answer only came up with solutions for regular Win10 versions not the LTSC version, and it wasn't absolutely blank of things - like my case.

Any help will be appriciated... thanks a lot.

Of course, and tried to restart the system also...

If this started after the last OS install, then update to latest or non-LTSB install. I know that with tablets, you can disable the Start Button, which can be an issue with desktop/laptop installs. Last time it happened to me, was working with the Samsung Galaxy Book that I had just got my fiancé a month a go. Stopping and restarting explorer and unchecking qnd checking the start button property was two items I tried. It is actually one of those weird problems that occurs because of how 10 has Tablet mode folded into the OS so tightly.

Were you able to open administrative command prompt or administrative powershell?


1) Open administrative powershell and type or copy and paste:
2) sfc /scannow
3) dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
4) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
5) sfc /scannow
6) chkdsk /scan
7) net user test /add

8) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

9) After post the results into the thread

10) shutdown /r
11) sign on with the new user named test > report into the thread any changes with the start menu
12) Get-appxpackage -all *shellexperience* -packagetype bundle |% {add-appxpackage -register -disabledevelopmentmode ($_.installlocation + “\appxmetadata\appxbundlemanifest.xml”)}
13) shutdown /r
14) sign on with the user named test > report into the thread any changes with the start menu

Opened the Powershell with admin rights, and entered the "get-appxpackage" command, restarted and signed on with test again. The Start Menu is unchanged and displaying apps as it should be.

Reseting the layout appeared to restore it. It does have now an additional section for pinned shortcuts (more resembles like the start menus of the regular win10 versions, not the minimalist look I had before, but It's fine for now).

You are welcome.

Compare again the user profiles and identify whether there is or is not a problem with the start menu.

A corrupt user profile can interfere with windows upgrades.
If there is no corruption then nothing needs to be done.
The new user named test can be deleted.

If there is user profile corruption then plan to delete the user profile after moving the user folders.
