Another failure to boot problem

After doing a windows restore to 17/8/19 I am unable to start my DELL laptop, I get a screen saying “sys restore is initialising then Sys restore is restoring the registry" it remained on that message for ever and eventually shut down.
I restarted and got the blue screen “your machine ran into some problems and needs to restart" but it shut down and remained in that condition so I had to restart and got Support Assist running sys scan, result no issues, SA then shows Error OS-Boot-Failure detected and repaired, you can safely restart your computer. If problem persists it may pay to run this sys again. Trouble is cant start the computer???
It showed at one point SA OS recovery V4.1.0.6830.
All the above was taken from rough notes that I scribbled down while performing the task and I may have missed something important.
I assume that this is a W10 issue and not DELL, so now relying on my old desktop (Vista) to sort out the problem, thank goodness I kept it.
Please is there an easy fix.

You could install Macrium Reflect Free on another PC and use that to create a Reflect boot disk. Boot the laptop from that disk and select the option Fix Boot Problems. That might find a problem and fix it.

I don't use Restore anymore. I use Reflect and could recover from such a situation on about 10 minutes. I suggest you use this excellent software or something similar.

If the Reflect boot disk doesn't work and you don't have a backup to recover from, I fear you will need to reinstall Windows. Try to recover your user files before doing this by inserting the laptop's disk in an external caddy (if the disk is removable) and copy the user files and other configuration files.

there is a way to fix the issue but it's not easy. you have to wipe the whole windows drive and reinstall windows on it

if you have any important data and you cant boot windows to back up your data then you need to open your computer and remove the hard disk and put it in a usb enclosure and connect it to another pc and transfer all your files there. after that put the hard disk back in the other computer

you need to make a bootable windows setup flash usb\dvd, boot from it, select advanced to get the partition manager, delete the windows partition and the recovery partition, create a new partition and select it to continue the setup. when the setup finishes start windows and install the missing drivers in the device manager

you can try installing windows 10 build 1903. if you dont like it or there are issues then again wipe everything and install windows 10 build 1809

1) Create tools that can be used if needed to backup files, run commands in Windows Recovery Environment (RE), test drives, etc.

2) Find three or four flash drives that you can format.

3) On a working computer create these bootable flash drives:

a) Windows 10 iso:

Perform the following steps pending the availability of the tools:

1) Find a camera or smartphone camera to take pictures and post images into the thread.
In case there are problems uploading images please use share links (one drive, drop box, google drive)

2) Remove the computer battery and power cord

3) Hold down the power button for 30 to 60 seconds

4) Insert the battery and connect the power cord.

5) Power on the computer and report what you see and hear
(post images as necessary)

6) Turn off the computer and use power off if necessary

7) Attempt to open Windows RE on the computer with the following steps:
a) power on the computer and power off when you see the Microsoft icon
b) immediately repeat the power on and power off again when you see the Microsoft icon
c) on the third power on allow it to progress to the computer's Windows advanced troubleshooting menu

8) if you open the menu click command prompt > this should open a black box with title bar: Administrator:X:\windows\system32\cmd.exe

9) type: chkdsk /r /v
reboot as needed to run the command
it may take many hours

11) More steps to follow pending the above results and availability of the bootable flash drives.

The computer is only 4 months old and does not come with any CD or usb recovery drives, on my DELL desktop you can do a DELL restore which works from boot up and resets to as new condition but the DELL laptop does not have that. can you get a CD/usb recovery from MS?

Some of this is too technical for me, is it possible to get a W10 recovery usb stick from Microsoft, that would seem to be the easiest way and as far as I can work out it can be done on boot up after DELL logo appears.

Tried to d/l it said it would take 1hr 40min and was just over 5gb but I had lunch and then checked, it had finished but only d/l 2.1gb as a part file. I will try again.



Could it be that my Vista is too old??
