Moving the documents folder to another drive but now duplicated

My first post - I'm not sure if this is the correct section to post in, apologies if wrong!

After cloning and fitting an SSD (960GB) to my pc, I wanted to free some space up so followed the tutorial from here to move the documents folder to an empty drive (it's 400+GB in size!).

The documents folder and all contents are now on the new drive, D:\Documents, but they are also still in C:\users\'me'\documents.

In file explorer, under 'This PC', the documents folder location in properties is shown as D:\Documents but in the users section it's also shown as above in C:\users\'me'\documents.

The used space on the C: drive has dropped by about 15GB and should have plummeted by 400 or so...

What have I done wrong or is this because the documents are linked to my account or something and can't be moved?

    Presumably you mean this tutorial
Move Location of Documents Folder in Windows 10

It does say that the contents should be moved.

    Did you observe the precaution?
    1. If you currently have your Documents folder protected by OneDrive, then you will need to temporarily turn off OneDrive protection for this folder until after you move it.
Note there are many ways to save space on C:

My personal view: don't relocate folders. Create your own, and add them to libraries if you wish.
Mistakes and problems with folder relocation have produced some challenging threads.

I have 'My files and Folders' 'Photos' 'Music' etc on another drive. The default folders are crammed with folders created by programs I've installed- so to me, they are 'their' folders.. whereas my folders truly are mine!

Thanks for that, dalchina, I did a clean re-install (I just kept my files and folders) from an ISO file, because the machine wouldn't update to v.1903 so there will be next to nothing in my 'Documents' folder linked to installed programs yet - maybe ConvertX might be one - but nothing else. Everything there is either a folder I have created or documents I have added.

I don't think that I had OneDrive running, it's there, but there's nothing backed up to it. I have not set it to back-up anything.

Plan B is to manually copy over the files then I will delete all in the c:\users\me\documents, folder. There is a lot of rubbish that I intend to get rid of so maybe then I will move the folder back to it's original location...….

The main 'problem' that I have is the duplication caused by whatever!

If you mean click/tap 'yes', to move all of the files, that's what I did.
