    Frequent laptop freeze

    Hi!

My windows suddenly started lagging, freezing, and apps crashed randomly. It even takes longer to boot and open an app, even file explorer takes a whole ten minutes to load. When I checked the task manager, the system and/or antimalware service executable is using my disk to 100%. It alternates from CPU, memory, and disk. Even the task manager is occasionally not responding, and the not responding message is also not responding. Recently, system interrupts decided to join the fray and is also using 100% of my CPU.

I read some of the article that said I should upgrade to SSD to fix the problem. I will consider this option should the problem persists and I could not find a way to fix the problem.

    I tried this solution:

    1. Ran chkdsk and sfcscannow to scan and repair all corrupted files.

    2. Defrag and optimize disks.

    3. Contacted Microsoft Support and was told to download and ran Windows 10 update from https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/soft...load/windows10 (may 2019 update)

    4. Did:
    • DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
    • DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
    • DISM.exe /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup
    • sfc /scannow

    on command prompt (administrator)

My windows version is 1809 with OS build 17763.678

    Do you have any recommendations?

    Thank you for your help.

    Regards,

    Mike

    Hi, welcome to tenforums.

When I first installed Win 10, I had a problem with Defender running like that. I installed Avast (free) and resolved that problem.

Now I'm not suggesting that's a real solution, but in working towards a solution, you need to get control of your PC.

How much free space have you on C: ?
Are your page file settings default?

Post back with a task manager screenshot after installing (e.g.) Avast.

I read some of the article that said I should upgrade to SSD to fix the problem.
    This is not a solution.

    Now consider wsappx :
What is WSAPPX and how to fix its High Disk Usage Issue

    My windows suddenly started
    - if you look at your Update History or Store app update records, is there anything that relates to when this started to happen?

Do you have a System Restore point created before this started to happen?

Do you have a recent Windows disk image you have created that you could use to restore your system?
(We constantly urge users to use disk imaging routinely - e.g. Macrium Reflect - free)
