Windows 10 - Search Bar and Safely Remove Icon - I have neither

These problems are actually on 2 seperate computers. both running Windows 10.

Older model is up to date and running smoothly, but realised today I have a search Icon, but no search box which I would prefer having had it, and then realise I have lost it, help please

Brand New desktop, set up professionally but I have no safely eject usb etc. Not showing on taskbar, nor in hidden icons, my options in settings/Notifications show Windows Explorer, but only for bluetooth, nothing about Hidden icons (which is ok on older computer). Have checked 'plug and play' and this is running, so only option I have come across on line is to re-install Windows, not something I want to do have just set up a new computer to my liking!

If you right click in a clear area of the task bar you will get a menu. Second from the top is Cortana, follow that option to show search box. If Search box is not an option you are using "small task bar buttons" on taskbar. Right click task bar again in clear area, this time in menu click task bar settings. Fourth option down.

Do you have a USB drive plugged in, doesn't show until something to eject.

Ken, didn't I see somewhere recently that it's no longer necessary to obther "ejecting" the USB drive?

Although, since it's still there, I always eject the drive anyhoo.

Right click on the Taskbar, then click on Taskbar Settings. Turn "Use Small Taskbar Buttons" off. Now you have a choice between an Icon or the Search Box.

Thanks for suggestions - a friend managed to retrieve my search box, but however, still no icon in Notification Area, even with a USB stick inserted. Problem seems to be be that following suggestions and getting to the part that says Windows Explorer in setting, the only one showing is about Bluetooth and nothing about what is or is not shown in Notification area.

So if you go into settings and Task Bar notifications do you see the safe removal icon as an option?

As you say the Safely Remove icon appears neither on the taskbar nor in the hidden system tray icons, note the case cited in post #2 where running

    SFC /SCANNOW
from an admin command or Powershell prompt
    restored it.

    Please try that.
