Creating a shortcut to trigger a shortcut in a background program?

I am transcribing audio, I have an audio program running in the background while I have a text program open to do the typing. I use ctrl + , as a shortcut in the audio program a lot, its the rewind function, but as it is, I have to keep switching out of the text program to the audio program to make the shortcut work and rewind the audio. Is there any way I can create a new shortcut that will trigger the ctrl + , shortcut for the audio program running in the background when I'm using the text program?

Try something like the Logitech MX mouse that allows you map the extra mouse buttons.

You might try some sort of macro program like autohotkey. The problem in your scenario is that the key combination you are typing is not being sent to your audio program since it is not the application with current focus and it's probably only designed to process the keystrokes when it has focus.

It's possible that a macro program may be able to send keystrokes to that program. If not, maybe it can be used bring the app into focus, send the keystrokes, then send change focus right back to the other app.

The issue is that with some of those transcriptions require you doing it by hand because that is what the person who is writing the checks want.
