I need help with 2 things please. USB Boot files and Search Issue

    Hi guys/Gals :)

Would you kindly help me with a couple of issues please?

    1. I need a direct download link for the files (64bit) to make a Win 10 boot USB drive using Rufus that will work on any computer that has Win 10, 64 installed. (to attempt a repair, not install Win 10). I don't want to use the Microsoft Media file creator.

    2. Need help figuring out why my computer (win 10, 64 - i7 32g ram) will not allow me to search for files. I can start a search and about 2-3 seconds later, it just shuts down. I even installed a third party search program (Search Everything) and it does the SAME thing.

I checked and search is showing as "Running" under services.

Really need to figure this out. Royal pain in the a..

Thank you for your time and consideration,
    John

Then choose your language, version, etc., and download the script, extract it to a folder, and run as Admin. Takes about 10 minutes or so.

There is also a method of downloading direct from MS shown here, Option #3.

    Download Windows 10 ISO File

And from HeiDoc: Microsoft Windows and Office ISO Download Tool

The UUPDump method is for making your own from any known build.

    1. Please note that the iso must be the same base build as that of the installed OS if you are considering an in-place upgrade repair install

    2. For that you do not have to have a bootable drive if the repair you are considering is an in-place upgrade repair install- you can use an iso.

    3. Any Win 10 bootable drive will allow you to effect e.g. a Startup Repair, but Macrium Reflect's Fix boot utility is more complete.

    2. Need help figuring out why my computer (win 10, 64 - i7 32g ram) will not allow me to search for files. I can start a search and about 2-3 seconds later, it just shuts down. I even installed a third party search program (Search Everything) and it does the SAME thing.
Suggest you start by checking your disks
    - e.g. Hard Disk Sentinel (trial); HD Tune (free), Health and Error scan tabs

    If ok then run
    chkdsk X: /scan
from an admin command or Pershell prompt
where X: is each of the drives or partitions in turn.

This fixes nothing, just reports the state of the file system.

Thanks for the reply's. I should have been more clear.

My wifes laptop has a hard drive issue. And is stuck in a loop (the scanning/repair loop). I tried everything I could for over a week to get back to Windows but I can not even load safe mode.

So I want to use a USB Win 10 drive to see if I can get to the HD to find/repair/or remove the bad sectors.

That's why I say that the needed files would not be use for an install.

    Thanks a ton, again,
    John

    Hey... you said:

"Then choose your language, version, etc., and download the script, extract it to a folder, and run as Admin. "

I want to make the USB drive on MY computer and use it to boot hers. So... still extract to folder and run as admin? That would mean that I would be using it JUST to create a Win 10 boot drive that could be used on her 64bit Win 10, right?

    Thanks,
    John

Ah! You want some sort of recovery media you can use to boot from and poke at her lappy. I'm assuming you are on a working machine now (yours). This is an excellent tool develop by one of our members that contains all sorts of familiar utilities in a Windows bootable environment. All you need is an empty thumb, 8GB will do, and Rufus. Make the thumb from his ISO and boot it on her lappy and go to town.

Hell no, I am never ever using chkdsk again. That is what got me to the point I am at now.

Maybe I should just use Macrium Reflect's Fix boot.

    Thank you,
    John
